Diamond, overall, looked better than Leake today. With the tough part of the Twins lineup, I don't blame Dusty for going to his closer. I just wish Chapman wasn't the closer.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

He needs to throw his slider more like he was before he became the closer.

Sending him to AAA is an amazingly dumb idea.

Quick! Trade Chapman while he still has value!!!

You can throw a fastball in a good location and it will succeed.
Like the fastball off the outside corner that Cabrera hit out to right in Cleveland? If they know what's coming, they can hit it.

    Chapman grooved it.

Telling you, these guys get three balls on the hitter and they panic that a walk might happen.

Latos too. He has four walks in the last month. Only four. Yet he's allowed ten homers because his objective is avoiding walks.

A walk is one base. It is not the end of the world. Can't groove pitches to good hitters.
He's giving up homers because players are sitting dead-red since Chapman/Hanigan (Mesoraco) are giving them no reason to honor any other pitches. When you have the ability to sit on a fastball pretty much an entire at-bat, it's a lot easier to hit a homer.

I am surprised they took Diamond out. He was only at 82 pitches

Burton might handle these RH bats fairly well. Not confident.

The Reds should do two things.

First, they should score twice now and win this game.

Second, they should take Chapman out of the closer spot for awhile.

I wouldn't expect anyone to be confident now. Hard to get truly excited again after going from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows.

I know he's hit a rough spot but holy overreactions batman.
LincolnparkReds & Crumbly both have valid points. I don't think they're reacting to one pitch either. Chapman's future with this club is as a starter. He DOES need to learn how to "pitch" instead of "throw". Since he's become the closer, he's started "throwing" again. He's become a 1 trick pony again. The slider was put in his pocket as was his third pitch. The reason they put him in the bullpen was because they were short staffed. Bray's back. Simon & Hoover joined the pen and pitched well. Masset is reportedly close to returning too.

I would be in favor of him going to Louisville and being re-stretched out. Let Marshall take over as closer.

99-63 WS champs (Cards take 2nd WC, Mil 3rd, Pit 4th, Chi 5th)
Bruce/Votto neck and neck MVP race (neither takes it)
    Bailey CYA winner
    Hamilton ROY & GG

Then Dusty and Price need to call pitches from the bench. He shakes them off and they go out to tell him, throw your other pitches or give me the ball
