    Saturday 6/30/2012 Minor-League Updates

Denis Phipps is back in the Louisville lineup, batting third. Let's hope it's a different Phipps than the one who started the season.

The Bats are tied 1-1 in the fourth. Costanzo is 2-2. Navarro is 1-2 with a 2B, batting .333. Phipps is 1-2. Reineke's pitching.

Just noticed that Neftali Soto is also back in the lineup. It isn't especially helping. Bats trail 7-1 in the eighth.

To that end, Josh Judy has had one of the more disappointing seasons among Reds farmhands.

Dayton scored 7 in the second and leads 7-2 in the fifth, with Tanner Robles pitching. The following guys are 2-3: Arias (2 steals), Perez (2 doubles), Buckley (HR), and Wright (2B). Silva has also homered.

I was at a Dayton game the other day and was impressed by Arias' approach at the plate. I don't think he had a spectacular game but he clearly had an idea of the zone and what pitches to lay off of.

Random anecdote from a layman so take it for what it's worth.

    Juan Silva's June: .383/ .526 (!)/ .633/ 1.159.

Yeah, I'd take that from my starting CF.

Unfortunately, he has two really lousy months in April and May.

Buckley has also had a nice June (.295/ .368/ .474/ .842) though he's apparently going to end up a 1B. That means he'll have to really turn it on.

Juan Perez might also be heating up (and 856 OPS in his last 10); that's certainly good to see. He's my pick as sleeper of the year-- sadly, he's been Rip Van Winkle.

Beau Mills has doubled and driven in a pair. Pensacola leads 4-2 in the eighth.

    Sulbaran's line: 6.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K. Big item there is the one walk.

Navarro finished the night with three hits, two doubles. He's now batting .343. Not many catchers do that.

Costanzo also had three hits, with a HR. Joseph was nicked for three hits and two runs (one earned) in his inning. Louisville lost 10-3.

Theo Bowe singled in the Bottom of the first stole his 30th base and scored on a singled by Steve Selsky. 30 steals would be an impressive number on any team that did not include Billy Hamilton. The Blaze lead 1-0 after one.
