    Birthdays: 7/3

    Reds:

Edinson Volquez (29) -Can't say I miss him...Both his first name and his last are unduplicated in baseball history.

Greg Vaughn (47) -His son is playing in the minors now. I feel old...

Art Fowler -Made his ML debut withthe Reds in 1954, almost 30 years after his brother Jesse debuted; the longest spread between brothers ever...Now remembered as Billy Martin's pitching coach.

Howie Schultz -6'6" first baseman, nicknamed "Steeple"; he played for the Reds in 1948- not very well. Also played three seasons in the NBA.

Curt Walker -I mentioned him in another thread as a potential Reds HOFer... Hit 117 career triples...Batted over .300 in his last two seasons before he retired; the next player to do that was Kirby Puckett.

    Others:

Moises Alou (46) -Nobody played with both Felipe and Moises, but Jerry Reuss played with Matty, Jesus and Moises...Known for urinating on his hands to roughen them up...write your own joke...

Frank Tanana (59) -Pitched the first games at both the Kingdome and new Comiskey, and pitched shutouts in both games...Also pitched the last game at Baltimore's Memorial Stadium...He and Rick Reuschel are the only pitchers to allow home runs to both Aaron and Bonds.

Coco Laboy (72) -3B for the early Expo teams; one of baseball's great stripper names.

Cesar Tovar (72) -Originally a Reds farmhand; dealt to the Twins for Gerry Arrigo. On 9/22/68 he played all nine positions in a single game. He pitched the first inning, and as fate would have it, the first batter he faced was Campy Campaneris, who had been the last player to accomplish the feat. He also struck out Reggie Jackson in that inning.

Tanana was with the California Angels (1973-1979) and, along with Nolan Ryan, anchored the pitching rotation. The saying out there at the time was "Tanana and Ryan and two days of cryin'".
