If they overpay to marginally upgrade their pitching and the Reds still make the playoffs, its a win.
Pirates have 9 games against the Reds after August 1st.

They certainly have the ammo to make it happen. In many ways, they are like the Reds leading up to 2010:
McCutchen = Votto
Alvarez = Bruce (you could flip flop these two comps given positions and big league success vs. minors)
Tabata = Stubbs
McDonald = Cueto
Burnett = Harang
Correia/Bedard = Arroyo
And like we did at the time, they have a whole host of talent on the farm to make future moves.
