Padres announcer Dick Enberg on Volquez:
"It's almost like he can't throw a fastball right down the middle for a strike...."

Have to remember it usually takes Dusty 8 weeks to pick up on what everyone else is calling for.

Latos is putting together a PA that shames Stubbs and half the other guys lately.

He's been slumping for some time now. I don't know if he's worn down or what, but Ryan's had a tough time of it. He's better than this usually.

Hopefully he'll come back well in the second half, but tough stretch for Hanigan.

Strikes out like a real Reds hitter.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

Is it time for Mes to be getting more playing time over hanigan? That last at-bat was pitiful, against a hack pitcher who he knows has control issues. Bottom line is hanigan has been failing badly with RISP and less than two outs.
