I'm counting the manager as a flaw. :banghead:

Great Puffy. All it took was one soft single by Deno off Ondrusek and this game that was absolutely in the bag would have gone down as another gut-wrenching loss rationalized away by many as "bad-luck", west-coast demons, etc. etc.

A soft single would have only tied it sorry.

This is a game we absolutely deserved to win and did.

    Is that not good enough?

Saying they were one flukey single from tying it is pretty defeatist I would say.

We won, that must count for something.

How many flukey singles did they deserve?

Ok, so when did Mark Berry become the Padres third base coach?

Ondrusek is the softest K/9IP guy in the pen by a mile and also the worst K/BB guy by a mile (giving Bray a pass due to sample size). The ball was going in play from Deno, we just played the odds that it wouldn't drop somewhere.

Absolutely a game that should have been won and fortunately it was in the end...

You make it sound like we were lucky we won?

Our pitchers struck out 14 Pads last night, theirs just 5. That Deno AB was the only out one of our relievers made that was not a K.

We BABIP'ed 7/28 (.250) while they were 10/24 (.417), yet we still won through more chances through less K's and more HR's.

If you look at the saber stats on the Pirartes they have been about the luckiest team in the majors this year.

We will go into the all star break ahead of the Cards.

We are 5-5 on the road trip in which many here felt would bury us forever.

It's getting so bad around here that winning 6-5 when our closer strikes out the side 1-2-3 isn't good enough.

Go back and look at the game and the number of seeing eye singles the Pads got.

Yet we still prevailed and never trailed.

When Stubbs scores we are 29-2.

The "Pirates refuse to lose" yet have one more win that us????????????

There is a collossal bunch of panties on this board getting themselves tied into a knot.

    Ponder that.
    Well put.

My panties are just fine sir, thank you. My insides though are a little queasy after some of these WC games.

Well, apparently the Reds manager and their team remembered that they still had a few games left before the AS break. My expectation was 5-6 on the trip, they have achieved that. So, if they win today, can I call them overachievers, a title that would make many cringe?

The real problem with fans is that sometimes we forget that other teams "leave games on the table" as one poster explained it.We would easily dismiss the notion that another team deserved to win a game simply because the Reds came back from a three run deficit. The things all of us love about baseball can really drive us crazy sometimes.

I was going to be happy with a 5-6 WC trip so anything better then that is gravy regardless of how it happened.
