What is virtually guaranteed is that there will be at least a couple of surprises. Someone not in the picture will be right in the mix until the end.

    East: Washington
    Central: Cincinnati
    West: San Francisco
Wild Card: St. Louis and New York

    Pitching, pitching, and more pitching.

There will be an exciting 8-team race for the five spots: L.A. will fall short due to insurmountable injuries, Pittsburgh won't make it because of their inability to get on base (their current hot streak notwithstanding) and Atlanta won't make it because Dan Uggla will hit .199. St. Louis makes it because I hate them and they always make it. And they got on base at a ridiculous clip. Fokkers.

    Dark Horse: Philadelphia.

If they decide to go for it instead of selling off at the deadline, they have a shot at a huge second half. That, of course, is only possible if Halladay returns and remains healthy along with Utley and Howard.

FWIW, I can't really make any predictions, but I do think it will take >94 wins to win the N.L. Central. I think the Reds, Cards, and Pirates will beat each other up to some degree, but I think they all will beat up on the bottom dwellers to such an extent that it will take at least 94. Just my two cents...

Could it be that the NL Central gets three playoff teams?
