    Robert Stephenson hits 100 MPH

Jamie Ramsey tweeted earlier today about it, but didn't specify whether it was the stadium gun or a team gun, so I asked. He says it was on a team gun.

I think it was a fast gun, but it would still mean he sitting high 90's...

I doubt the team is carrying around a fast gun.

Wow. That's a pretty significant development. Let's hope he can harness it.

That is smoke. Any reason why we've been so careful about challenging him so far? He's not terribly behind schedule, but you'd think a first round pick with that kind of stuff would have spent the year in Dayton. Innings? Should we expect the same timeline for Travieso?

After Chapman's events this year, I am just hoping this refers to Stephenson's pitching and not his driving.

    100 mph is great.

100 mph with control is much, much better.

Stephenson, in limited innings, has thrown 20.2 innings and given up 8 BBs.

If he can harness his stuff, he moved quickly.

Agreed. Being able to hit 100 isn't the same as throwing 100 though. Stephenson has struggled with control the last two games. Have to wonder if he has been out there trying to just throw it as hard as he can rather than throwing 93-95.

The 2011 draft has the potential to be for pitching what 2005 was for hitting:

2011: Cole, Hultzen, Bauer, Bundy, Bradley, Fernandez, Barnes, Meyer, Guerrieri, Stephenson and Norris
2005: J.Upton, Gordon, Zimmerman, Braun, Tulowitzki, Maybin, McCutchen, Bruce, Ellsbury and Rasmus

    That was the 2005 draft.

Maybe they found the one that Bowden left behind.
I'll never forget Bowden exaggerating radar gun readings.. Like Bere threw 97 in spring training The guy was the master of hyperbole.

I'm not doubting Stephenson's reading is legit, that comment just reminded me of that incident.. Very impressive that he can light it up.. Hopefully he turns out to be a good pitcher for the Reds.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob
