    Friday 7/20/2012 Minor-League Updates

Pedro Villarreal took his lumps tonight: 4 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 1 K. Travis Webb provided no relief. Louisville trails 9-0 in the fifth.

Bats have two hits, both belonging to Denis Phipps, both doubles.

Hamilton has a swipe and an error. Beau Mills is 2-2. Pensacola trails 4-2 after three.

Corcino's pitching. Two of the Mobile runs are unearned. (If it's not a Mobile run, is it Stationary?)

Hamilton and LaMarre made errors on the same play, allowing both BayBears runs in. Bad luck for Corcino, not that he's pitched that great outside of said misfortune.

Jonathan (the team) Moscot has thrown two scoreless for Billings and Jeff Gelalich has doubled and scored for a 1-0 lead.

Now that's the way to break a deadlock. Dragons score 6 in the bottom of the eighth to win 7-1. The inning featured back-to-back bunt singles by Yorman (3 hits) and Wright. Buckley also had three hits. Carlos Gonzalez pitched the last two innings in relief of James Allen.

Moscot is done after two, replaced by Joel (Fender) Bender, who hopefully does not drive the team bus. Bender has somehow given up five hits without a run in two innings. (Just like a Fender Bender--no real damage). It's 2-0 Billings.

Bakersfield was on the cusp of defeat, but tied it in the 9th on a 2-out, bases loaded balk of all things. Heading to extra innings tied at 8.

And it turns out the Blaze wasted their time tying it up. Brackman gives up a 2 run shot in the bottom of the 11th, Bakersfield loses 10-8.

Encouraging AA start in OBP department for Billy (Ohio) Hamilton.

I agree. Billy's ability to take a walk and work a count — and the progression he's made year to year in this area — is as impressive as his base running ability.

However, I have a sinking feeling he's just days away from leaving the organization.

Extremely limited sample, but, yeah, the 1:1 K:BB ratio is certainly nice to see, as is the power. So far, the leap to AA has been little problems for the Reds' best prospect.

Extremely encouraging what we are seeing out of him in AA..

Doug will bring the goods in August on him when he takes his trip down there.

Hamilton's walk rate has continued to go up each year. I love it. Just get him on base and he will be a nightmare for opponents. He also shows improvement each year as a hitter, which is also an encouraging sign. Keep in mind he was a four-sport athlete in high school. Now that he's had a chance to focus on just baseball for 3 straight years, we're seeing the results.

Brackman is beyond awful. Time for him to go find a job selling insurance or something.
