    Thursday 7/19/2012 Minor-League Updates

Well, Louisville's game didn't turn out as nicely as the Reds', but it was not for lack of excitement. The Bats scored four in the ninth to fall short, 13-12. Homers in the game for H-Rod, Puckett, Costanzo and Soto.

The pitchers who got roughed up: Reineke, Fisher, Texeira and (to a lesser extent) Christiani.

    Hitters, on the other hand: H-Rod 4-5 (.327), Soto 2-4, 5 RBI, Costanzo 2-5, 3 RBI, Harris 2-5, Phipps 1-3, 2 BB.

That he can make it through the league once? He has just over 50 total plate appearances in AAA right now.

No doubt he needs some more seasoning. Before this game, Rodrigez's AAA line was .280/ .294/ .360/ .654.

Let's wait to see how well he does after 200 - 300 more ABs in the upper minors just to make sure he's of possible help to the major league club. If he hits well (after 55 ABs-- .327/ .339/ .455/ .794), then, in September, he can come up and play some 3B, perhaps some 2B and give rest where needed.

I will say that his the type of bat the Reds definitely need. He's a switch hitter and has a high BA-driven obp without K'ing too much.

I see HRod getting a September call up and competing for a bench spot with the Reds next year. That's my expected timetable.

He may someday be a regular, but he would be a welcome addition to the Reds' bench next season. An actual switch hitter. The Cairo spot is awaiting him.

Exactly. He is Cairo's 2013 replacement.

Jacob Johnson got rocked for six runs in the first. Looks like he is setting down now as it is 6-2 going into the bottom of the third. Dragons chip away with two in the bottom of the second on a walk to Ryan Wright and singles by Kyle Waldrop and Sean Buckley.

The kid is a natural hitter. It's already obvious. But he wasn't a first round pick so he'll get buried as the Reds fiddle around with their high draft picks and give them every chance to succeed. The excuse machine is in order for guys like H-Rod. Seen for decades. Hence we get guys like Stubbs.

He couldn't be a first round pick even if he wanted. He was not born in the country. And the Reds have aggressively promoted him throughout his career. And yes, the guy is a natural hitter. But he is also 22 years old. You know where Stubbs was when he was 22? In Dayton.

Who are these 22 year olds in AAA that get buried?

Agreed...unless Rolen goes down in the next 3-4 weeks. Then I'd expect we'd see H-Rod in Cincy earlier. Otherwise, he likely sticks with the big club next year (or flipped at the deadline).

Pensacola scored a run in the first on doubles by LaMarre and Mills and then tack on four in the fifth, the big blow being a three-run blast by Josh Fellhauer. Kyle Lotzkar had a bumpy evening, giving up four runs in 4.1 innings of work. He only allowed two hits but walked six. He also struck out six. Drew Hayes came on in the fifth with two runners aboard and allowed both of them to come on home, giving up two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Six walks for Lotzkar. In 4 1/3 innings. Maybe Cingrani can direct him toward the plate.

Hamilton 0 for 2 with a BB and a caught stealing.
