Brought it up in another thread just a few minutes ago, funny now that Zobrist now might be available. Get him. Cozart, Heisey, Corcino/Cingrani, Lotzkar for Zobrist.

All that for Ben Zobrist? Am I missing something about this guy? I know he is a decent major league player, but that kind of haul should be saved for an elite player.

It's a ridiculous over-payment for Zobrist. Guy's had one really good year and for the rest has been fairly average for an out fielder. Why give up so much for that?

Way too much........man If the Rays were offered that. they'd be fools not to take it. Cozart/Heisey and Lotzkar/Sulburan would be the most I'd offer.

Then you need to seriously re-examine what a bad trade is.

Zobrist would instantly be the second best position player on this team, by a wide margin. He's statistically been one of the best players in the league the last few years, being near the top of the leaderboards in WAR. He is by no stretch of the imagination an average player in any sense. Maybe back 3 or 4 years he'd be a bit closer to average, but the numbers he puts up are at a premium. Last I read the other day, there are 13 or 14 players in all of baseball anymore who can OBP above .380. Zobrist is one of them, with power in his bat to boot and the ability to play excellent defense.

If anything, I might be selling his price tag extremely short.

Wow, you have a huge Zobrist boner. You're overselling this guy.

Or buying extremely high on the concept of WAR.

I don't dispute that Zobrist is a nice player and I'd love to have him, but I must side with the others in the thread - we would be giving up WAY too much in your proposed deal.

Not at all. At least I provided actual facts that back up my argument pretty well. You're just being crude without offering anything to the conversation at all.

If you took Cingrani out of that package I would do that deal. Cingrani & Hamilton would be my only to prospect untouchables at this point. Zobrist is exactly the type of player we need to go from decent to near-elite offensive lineup. Giving up Cozart would not be great but we have replacements in house in Didi, H-Rod, & Hamilton. Zobrist would be the missing piece IMO to having a solid nucleus for the next several years.

    Zobrist
    Philips
    Bruce
    Frazier
    Bruce
    Ludwick
    Mes
    Didi/H-Rod/Hamilton

I'm a huge believer in Zobrist. The guy is extremely valuable. I'd have to look into his contract status, but I don't think that trade proposal is that much of a stretch. He'd instantly become our second best player by a big margin.

Edit: I just saw that the proposed trade included only one of Corcino/Cingrani. Hell yes I'd make that deal.

Why not go all in and make a play for both Zobrist and Shields.....what would it take if you start with Leake, Hamilton (holding on to Cozart), and Stubbs?
