Preview from MLB.com. Homer pitches well down here. The importance of quality pitching cannot be overstated IMO. If I am a small-market GM, the emphasis is on pitching first, pitching second and pitching third.

Actually it is more like pitching first, pitching second and defense 3rd. The Reds pitchers, especially Bailey have lived off the defense lately.

I suspect a "struggling" start, something like 6I 3R variety with plenty of baserunners but yet count as a "quality start".

BP will drive Dusty nuts in the dugout! Lol

No problem here with Phillips getting a day off and Valdez getting some playing time.

Wouldn't surprise me if Phillips is retrieving bats and stuff.

Was hoping to see Paul get another start, since the Reds are playing the AA-stros. He seems to have a nice approach at the plate, and doesn't go up there hacking, swinging at everyting close. He got 3 hits, was robbed of a 4th, and will probably not see another start. It's the fricken ASTROS for crying out loud. Give the kid some AB's.

why the quotes around quality start?

Quality starts give teams a chance to win games.

Against this team, anything less than 7I 1-2R is unacceptable aka Mat Latos.

They stink. Stink really bad. If you are letting them get 3 runs in 6 innings, you had a bad night.

The Houston Astros have scored more runs this year than: The San Diego Padres, the Oakland Athletics, the Chicago Cubs and the Miami Marlins. They have scored within 24 runs (or less than a .22 run per game difference/a difference so small to be of no statistical significance in any given matchup) of the Orioles, Rays, Royals, Pirates, Giants & Dodgers. That is ten of the 30 Major League teams that apparently stink... stink very bad... and are "AAA" lineups.

By the way, the Astros home OPS is almost 90 points higher than their away OPS. More importantly, their per game runs scored is 4.2 at home (and 3.5 on the road)... so according to the actual statistics this year, when playing at home the astros lineup is in the middle third of MLB.

I do not see how giving up three runs to this team should be considered "unacceptable".

You have to understand that anything Rage says tonight about pitching should be taken with a grain of salt. His hate for Bailey is as chronicled as it has become illogical.
