    Watching LA-STL on MLBTV

I just realized how I tend to take the Reds' defense for granted at times. LA has given up 2 runs in the 4th on 4 straight "hits" against Capuano. If he had the Reds' defense behind him, he'd be in the dugout right now cruising into the next inning.

We see the Dodgers so infrequently anymore with the current schedule, I didn't realize they were this bad defensively.

And just as I finish typing that, Andre Ethier throws out a runner at home.

But the point remains... It would be 0-0 now with Phillips & Co. behind Capuano.

Hanley Ramirez fitting in well. Drops a sure-fire OF assist for a would-be out at third.

We have the best defense in the NL, hands down.
What if this is as good as it gets?

Also tells us our pitchers aren't that good. Including the bullpen ones outside Chapman.

Has any team in baseball history been as lucky as the Cardinals? The most runs they have allowed this entire month is 5 just twice and have a ERA or 2.33 and have 21 quality starts in a row with two rookies who didn't have major prospect love, 2 scrubs starters who had 4.2+ career ERA in their 30's and Wainwright who is their wost SP who's coming off TJ.

Their Pitchers are kicking balls that would be RBI singles into CF and then running and picking it up to get the guy at first. This week alone they got 18 runs off Capuano, Kershaw and Dempster.

no it tells us our pitchers understand they don't need to strike out every batter b/c they can trust the people to get the ball in right place.

This is a sick repeat of Last year, the Dodgers just needed to win 2 games in this series and got game one but is going to lose the series 3-1 and get passed by Cards in the wild card standings.

You can't pull for one of their good players to get hurt because the guy they replace him with will only be better. IE Lynn's 12-4 3.10 ERA after a 4.43 in AAA and Joe Kelly and his 2.78 who keeps a low ERA despite having tons of guys on base.

It was his first error in 278 games I think they said, one of a million stats that show how lucky these scrubs are. Matt Kemp has been killing everyone only to hit 1-for-15 in this series and .252 in career with a OPS around .650 while he hits .350 off us with a 1.121 OPS his highest vs any team with at least 20 AB by .111 points.

The Cards get bloop after bloop and dribbler after dribbler, I'm kinda shocked their MLB leading BABIP isn't higher than the .320 something they have now after the 20 hits they are heading for today.

Kemp finally gets a hit off a swinging bunt but he almost stopped running and just beat the throw.

    Re: Watching LA-STL on MLBTV

Cards win again and ERA for the month is down to 2.29 and they dumped two guys who accounted for 8 of the 48 ER in 6 innings this month meaning the ERA of the guys they have now is just 2.07!?!

The Cardinals have yet to get blown out this month with 2 runs being the most that they have lost by all month, the A's have just 3 losses all month and all 3 came by 5 or more runs and their ERA fell behind us in July so the Cardinals have a ERA this month 0.27 better than us in a month that seems like we've been perfect and beat them 3 times.

Dodgers had beat them 8 times in a row and just needed to one once of last 3 to keep them 2 games behind them but they lost 3 in a row so now Cardinals are the first team out if the playoffs started today. So we're going to need to keep beating them because nobody else is going to help much.

Do you guys remember when we though David Freese was going to see his BABIP come back down to earth and it did for a bit as he had a .293 on June 2nd, well since then he's hit .375 with a .466 BABIP to get his season total back up to .381 on the year.
