Jeez, I totally forgot he was on the 40 man.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

Very sad in a away. When i had Andrew he was lights out and had very good, measured mechanics. NC State really screwed him up and the Yankees gave him some really goofy ideas before he made it to the big leagues. Now he is basically screwed. Hope he stays in the minors and works his way back as a reliever.

I am hoping he clears waivers. That way he could still be given a chance to develope in the minors.

Having struggles in High A at age 26..... I can't imagine him not clearing waivers.

I spoke to someone close to Drew last night and the person swears that Drew has been hitting 97 on the gun in Bakersfield. That fact doesn't apparently seem to be helping him too much since he still isn't pitching particularly well in Bakersfield. I kind of hope they would let him pitch out of the pen in Pensacola so he can have a giant stadium behind him to build up his confidence.

To be fair, Brackman has been ok as a reliever in Bakersfield.

    Code:
Bakersfield	ERA	IP	H	HR	BB	SO

    Reliever	3.97	22.2	20	4	7	17
    Starter 6.75	12	14	0	11	9

Thanks for the stats, doug. Hopefully that HR rate will normalize over a larger sample size. I wonder if the Reds would consider letting Drew throw his knuckle curve again. The Yankees told him to stop throwing it due to damage to his arm, but now that he needs something to kickstart his career, I would think he should risk it for better results. It was a pretty nasty pitch in high school and college.

He's been between 94-97 at Bakersfield for awhile now. They are doing a good job of getting him straightened out. He's getting closer to having a consistent, repeatable delivery. Rigo Beltran has done an absolutely stellar job in Bakersfield this year as pitching coach.

Brackman lacks control. We have better prospects to spend time on.

Randy Johnson walked 6 guys per 9 innings through his age 28 season. He went on to win 4 Cy Young Awards after that. You don't just quit on big arms.

    The Reds did.

    I'll trust their opinion.

I wouldn't use Randy Johnson as a case study on why you shouldn't give up on big arms.

Lol Randy Johnson wasn't pitching in Class A at 26 either. He was striking out almost 8 guys per 9 innings, so he at least showed enough in the bigs to not give up on, despite his wildness.
