    Fontenot > Cairo

Didn't see a thread on his release.

    Career OPS: 0.734 > 0.675

    2012 OPS: 0.683 > 0.385

    Fontenot six years younger.

I've always liked him. Cairo needs to call it a career at this point.

On this, I definitely agree with you. As to the best fit to take his place? I need to think on that one a bit more.

I don't really enjoy defensive metric stats so I don't have the numbers to back it up, but I remember him being terrible defensively.

Fontenot doesn't have any plate discipline, his weighted OBP is awful, below average defense, and has almost no power. Not to say Cairo is better, but Fontenot isn't worth anything either.

I would pass and agree Fontenot is deceptive with stats. For a bench player, I would prefer the player-friendly Cairo or a power hitter.

Who's to say Fontenot isn't great in the clubhouse?

Unless he's injured there's no way I see Walt or Dusty moving Cairo anywhere.

If we don't add Fontenot I will be upset, we need to improve our depth badly.

I'd bet that when he's 48 or 58, Cairo will be just as good...maybe even better... in the clubhouse.

He has a .385 OPS eventually what happen on the field takes precedence. You can't have players like Valdez and Cairo stating for you and expect to win.

We play in a hitters park and are just posting 4.31 RPG overall and 4.08 on the road with Votto/BP having strong season until the injury and Ludwick posting a .985 OPS the last two and a half months. Without those two and Ludwick sure to cool soon we could get exposed offensively especially playing automatic outs with low OBP

Cairo is Walt's guy. He's not going to push him aside at this point with the team chemistry going well.
