Stephenson with a 1-2-3 second. Dragons plated 3 runs in the first. Lead 3-0 after two full. Perez and Wright with singles. Joe Terry HBP to load them with nobody out. A couple errors helped the inning along.

    Stephenson's final line tonight:

    5 IP 3 hits 1 R (a homerun) 5 Ks 0 walks

    Pretty stellar.

Love the lack of BBs so far in Dayton and his last few starts in Billings.

Also love the lack of hits by opposing teams.

First game: Pensacola fell, 4-2. Fellhauer (3B) and LaMarre each had a couple hits. Billy H was 1-4 with a SB. Lotzkar line was 3.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 K. Drew Hayes threw two scoreless innings.

Second game: Wahoos lose 1-0 on a Tennessee run in the bottom of the 7th (final) inning. Their only hits came from Fellhauer and Mills. Corcino went 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K. After pitching a perfect 6th, Partch gave up a leadoff HR in the 7th.

Dayton wins 4-2. After Stephenson, El'Hajj Muhammad and Michael Dennhardt each went two innings. Dennhardt's (1.94) were scoreless. It was his first save.

The Dragons mustered only six singles, with no walks.

Brandon Dailey's 2-run HR is the big factor in Billings' 3-2 lead after seven. He and Amaral are both 2-4 at the top of the order.

Ismael Guillon: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 6 K. The walks are high again, but for the most part he has made significant progress.

Re: Wednesday 8/01/2012 Minor League Updates

While I was watching through the camera and would like to go back and watch it all again on my computer once I get the time to sort through the footage, my initial reaction was that Stephenson looked better tonight than he did in his first start with Dayton. Most of the night he was 95-97, dipping down to 94 a handful of times and hitting 98 a handful of times.

My favorite part of the night was when 01 (101) showed up on the radar gun on the scoreboard and I wasn't entirely sure if it was the pitch speed or the ball off the bat speed on a liner up the middle. If I had to bet I would say the ball off of the bat, but it is funny that you have to think about it.

Amir Garrett: 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K. The Junior Reds trail 2-1. Jonathan Perez will now try to improve upon his 20.77 ERA.

Steve Selsky (.336) is 2-2 with his 11th HR, and Bakersfield is tied 4-4 after four. Daniel Renken has settled down after a 4-run first.

That was actually his 14th. His 11th with the Blaze and he had 3 with Dayton. He has 70 more at bats with Dayton than Bakersfield. The California League is crazy.

Somehow Jonathan Perez managed to issue four walks in and inning and a third AND lower his ERA to 15.88.

The Big Red Stroller scored 8 runs in the last three innings to crush their opponents by a score of 9-2. BOOM! goes the dynamite!

Brent Petersen with three hits. Jonathan Reynoso and Wilfrel Estevez with two apiece. Petersen is on a roller coaster ride his last eight games. Two four-hit games, a three-hit game and a two-hit game are couple with 4 0-fers.

Wandy Peralta got the win with 3.2 scoreless frames. Vaughn Covington pitched the ninth, striking out a pair.

Billings took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth and still managed to walk off the fields losers. Alejandro Chacin was charged with 5 runs in 2/3s of an inning pitched. He got no help from his defense as four of the runs were unearned. Mustangs' manager must have lost count of the innings as he ran his closer, Matt Wiley, out there in the 8th. Wiley, he of the 0.00 ERA proceeded to strike out the side.

Amaral and Dailey whacked out three hits each. Jesse Winker, the slacker, could only manage a pair. Daniel Pigott also had a couple of hits in the loss.

Billings' hitters have some impressive averages.
    Winker - .352
    Seth-Brean - .378
    Vincej - .367
    Dailey - .359
    Pigott - .353

Julio Murillo made his Pioneer League debut.
