    The Southern League ‏@SLeagueBaseball
@b_ham_3 stole three more bases tonight, giving him 14 already in August. No SL team (besides @BlueWahoosBBall) has that many this month.

Billy did have an ice pack on his throwing hand leaving tonight. Said he dinged it up sliding into third.

Re: Wednesday 8/08/2012 Minor League Updates

Felix Perez stayed hot (single, home run, stolen base) and has walked 5 times in his past 10 games, which is very encouraging. Brian Peacock hit his first AAA home run. Neftali Soto had a couple singles as well as an error. Danny Dorn homered against his former team. He was also thrown out at third base from the outfield by Cody Puckett. Travis Webb didn't allow a run for the 6th time in his last 7 appearances.

Billy Hamilton had 3 stolen bases and is only 14 away from tying the record for most stolen bases in a season. In addition to a dominant pitching performance, Chad Rogers got his first professional hit (triple). The bullpen pitched 3 innings of scoreless relief. David Vidal doubled, and I would dare say he's scorching hot.

Devin Lohman and Ryan Wright combined for 4 runs, 5 hits, and 2 rbi (thanks to Wright's homer). Theo Bowe stole his 44th base. Tim Crabbe had a nice game, which is nice to see after his initial struggle in AA. Kyle McMyne has been roughed up pretty good lately, but he pitched a hitless inning for the save (although he did allow an inherited runner to score).

Billy did have an ice pack on his throwing hand leaving tonight. Said he dinged it up sliding into third.
Practically inevitable for a guy who runs that much. He's got to be careful.

    Yep.

I am enjoying his run for the record, but I hope the Reds take away his green light after he passes Coleman. There is no reason for him to be putting his body through this much wear and tear in the minor leagues. The Reds should save him from himself and force him to be more selective until he reaches the majors, then turn him loose.

On that steal of 3rd last night for Billy, it resulted in what is the worst throw I have ever seen on the pro level by an actual player. The catcher attempted to throw it down to third, but I imagine he realized it was to late and tried to hold onto the ball. Well, that didn't work and he basically "floater pitched" the ball into left field. At its peak, the throw was probably 20-25 feet in the air. It was actually really funny.

Nice to see something good about my boy Drew. He is from my area, and played Kitty League ball, for the local team. I know he was the closer for Dayton last year, and learned that some here said his projections wasn't as closer, and he hasn't been used as such, since way early in the season. Where do most put his ceiling?..I feel he can be a productive pitcher, like a Lecure.....am I that far off?

He throws 91-4 with a changeup and slider. I'm a big fan of his slider, but he often lacks command. He could be a solid middle reliever--maybe even a setup guy--but he needs to work on making his delivery more consistent.

Thanks for the input. Would be nice to see him put things together, and move up, and possibly, be a contributor. I'm pulling for him. Do most feel he'll be in AAA next season? I should hope so, considering his age, and college experience.

There's a pretty good chance seeing as how only 3 members of the Bats' pitching staff aren't due to be free agents (Christiani, Hoover, Villarreal). However, Hayes won't be eligible for the rule 5 draft this year, so there's no need to rush him.

    edit:
To clarify, Jordan Smith won't be a free agent, but he'll be out of options. I expect him to be DFAed and spend the year in Louisville like Carlos Fisher is doing this year.
