Monday August 13, 2012 Minor League Updates

Louisville parlays a single (Phipps), a double (Rodriguez) and a walk (Soto) into nothing, thanks largely due to a GIDP (Navarro)

Pedro Villareal (4.12) walks the lead-off batter and that's where we stand in the bottom of the first.

Stalin Gerson (3.76), with what is becoming the norm with him, is having another fine outing. 5IP 4H 2R 1ER 1BB 4K. Nick O'Shea with a two-run double. Juan Perez and Yorman Rodriguez with singles. Kyle Waldrop has singled and walked. Dayton leads 3-2. Junior Arias has fallen below the Mendoza Line and committed his 30th error on the season.

California League is taking the night off in order to re-tally Slidin' Billy's stolen base total from earlier in the season. With the all-time record on the line, double-checking is a must.

Billings will be hosting Idaho Falls. Game starts in about 40ish or so minutes. Ismael Guillon (2.60) will be toeing the rubber.

The good news for Louisville is that Felix Perez and Cody Puckett both doubled in the second to plate one run. The bad news is that Pedro Villareal surrendered four in the first and one more so far in the second. Bottom of two the Bats trail 5-1. Pedro Villareal is sporting and ERA of well over five in his last ten Louisville starts.

Pedro Villareal with a rough outing. 1.2IP 8H 8R 7ER 3BB 0K. Josh Judy drags his 7+ ERA out of the bullpen here in the second.

Seems as though I jinxed Gerson. He faces four batters in the top of the sixth and retires none of them. He gave up four runs, all of them unearned. Single, single, error on a sacrifice and a walk ends Stalin's night. Carlos Gonzalez comes on and induces a double play while a run scores. He then throws two run-scoring wild pitches during the next at-bat. Dragons trail 5-3 moving into the bottom of the sixth.

    Ismael Guillon looking good: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, ERA 2.44.

Billings is scoreless after three. Ridiculously, Mejias-Brean is 2-2 with a triple.

Louisville has 8 hits - five doubles - and three walks through 4.2 innings but have only scored three runs. Henry Rodriguez is 3 for 3 with two doubles. Felix Perez is 2 for 3 with two doubles. Josh Judy has struck out five in two and two-thirds innings of work. He has, however, allowed four hits, two walks and two runs. Gwinnett mauling the Bats 11-3.

Dayton scored three in the second but shut it down at that point, falling 6-3. Kyle Waldrop with a hit and two walks. Five other Dragons had a hit. Nick O'Shea had the only one for extra bases - a double.

No score in Billings as they play in the bottom of the fourth. Guillon, in four innings of work, has allowed two hits while walking none and striking out seven.

Not sure what some of these guys in Billings have to do to get a promotion. Guillon, Mejias-Brean, Winker, and arguably Vincej (in abbreviated time) have all dominated the league to the point where they have demonstrated they are more than ready for the next challenge in full season ball.

Not to mention, all of them with the exception of Winker would be very age appropriate for Dayton.
