In what way is Ondrusek superior to Hoover?
Hoover could have done that.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

LeCure is still getting healthy, but with Ondrusek it's a pattern.
Why does he have to be "superior?"
He's got a heck of a lot more experience than Hoover. If/when the Reds feel Hoover is a better option, I'm sure they'll use him. Maybe he's better, maybe he's not. But Hoover doesn't have much of a track record to know one way or another.
"No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games. It's the other third that makes the difference." ~Tommy Lasorda
This may have been discussed earlier, but I feel like one of the biggest blunders of the game was when they held Frazier at 3B when he could've had easily made it home. Not sure if that was Berry or Frazier's call. Now, Mesoraco wasn't much better because he couldn't get the run in with 1 out, but still. That run would've tied the game into the 9th. Ondrusek probably doesn't come in with that scenario.
Valdez needs to be bunting, or not swinging.

Shouldn't that have been a ball on that "balk" by Marmol?
