    Ludwick walks
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

83.1 innings with team ahead, 3.56 ERA which is better than Mat's overall ERA.

I looked it up because it's not my perception that Mat fades with big leads, although these numbers deal with all leads at all points in the game. So you may well be right.

My perception is that the Reds haven't hit for him in the second half and the pen has given up some of his leads.

Earlier in the year, some folks said (probably correctlly at that point) that Mat is best for about 45 pitches and then fades. Over the season, though, I think he's done ok in the later innings.

Today, his defense failed him and I think Dusty left him out there a bit too long.

Still, with everything, he allowed only four runs and probably two were unearned. I like Latos because he's a real starting pitcher, goes pretty deep in games, strikes out over 8 per nine. Good pitcher IMO.

    Frazier pops to 2nd.

    4-4 after 8.

Hate to be negative but I don't feel too good about this one. Our offense has disappeared since the 4th while the Cubs keep battling at the plate.

The Reds have not played like a team that's 25 games better than the opponent. That said, they need to come through and win this one.

Chapman coming in for third straight game. Cubs are supposed to send up some lefties now, but could pinch hit.

The Valdez and Bruce plays really hurt today, this one would likely be a win if not for those plays.

Might have been safe, but I'll accept the out.

    K. End of inning.
