Alfredo Simon is a converted starter that was brought in for long relief.

And has been used almost entirely in the lowest leverage situations. Which are exactly the situations that Ondrusek should be pitching in.

Bullpen has been showing cracks recently. We need JJ Hoover back from AAA, and I assume we will see him by Sept. 1., which is only eleven days away.

Surely you realize not everyone is cut out to pitch 3-4 innings at a time, yes?

Low leverage and long relief are not entirely the same.
