    Minor League Updates: Thursday 6/20/2013

    Louisville is at Durham.

Early on it is 1-0 Bulls. Armando Galarrage on the hill for the Bats. Billy Hamilton is back leading off. He has a single and a stolen base (46). Felix Perez, who is having a rough June, has singled and walked. Perez's monthly OPS numbers: .823/.842/.580.

Galarrage with an Arroyo-like performance. Eight hits and two walks in 4+ innings. But only two runners have crossed the plate.
Louisville hitters have been lethargic. Soto has two singles but there has not been a whole lot else.

Durham leads 2-0 in the fifth.

    Durham hangs on 2-1.

    Galarrage 6IP 8H 2R 2ER 2BB 3K.
Logan Ondrusek with two more scoreless innings. (Louisville relievers regularly go more than one inning.) In five innings of work since heading to AAA, Ondrusek has given up just one hit, no runs and two walks, while fanning five.

    Neftali Soto had two singles.
Jason Donald doubled, walked and scored the lone Bats' tally.

Pensacola is at Montgomery. Ryan Dennick will be throwing for the 'Hoos. He has a nifty 3.13 ERA on the year. Looking for a little more Yorman Magic. Game will start shortly.

Dennick allows three singles and a run in the second but Theo Bowe's solo shot in the top of third ties the score at 1.

Dennick is out after six innings. He did not pitch poorly but received next to no support. 6IP 6H 3R 3ER 1BB 5K.

Bowe's solo blast is still the lone Blue Fish safety. They trail 3-1 after seven full.

Pensacola got a single from Brodie Greene in the eight but he was left stranded.
Yorman Rodriguez led off the ninth with a single. He is 1-3 on the night with a walk. He also is left stranded.

Pensacola was battered by the Biscuits 3-1.

Re: Minor League Updates: Thursday 6/20/2013

High Desert is in Bakersfield for Throwdown Thursday. Indie league pitcher, Shane Dyer, will try to continue his masterful pitching for the Blaze. This will be his fourth start. His K/BB is an exceptional 14/1. His ERA sparkles at 1.86.

No score after one. Four Juans once again in the lineup for Bakersfield. If Dusty was managing the Blaze would he split up the Juans like he does the lefties?

Shane Dyer with another strong effort through four. He has pitched shutout baseball, allowing two hits and no walks. He has whiffed four.

Ryan Wright led off the game with a single and that is the only Blaze safety so far.

    Shane Dyer was masterful tonight: 7IP 4H 0R 0ER 0BB 5K. ERA is now 1.37.

Blaze broke through with two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh.

Kyle Waldrop has hit round tripper number 11. A number of Blaze hitters had a hit a apiece.

Pat Doyle came on in the 8th and walked the leadoff hitter. The next batter up went yard. Blaze take a slim 3-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth. Kyle Lotzkar on. And Lotzkar gets the job done striking out two in a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his first Blaze save. Blaze undefeated in the second half.

    Bakersfield 3 High Desert 2.

It got ugly early and often in Dayton.

    Nick Travieso took the brunt of it. 2IP 8H 6R 6ER 1BB 3K 3 HR.
Joel Bender gave up two runs on four hits in his inning on the mound.

Beau Amaral led off the contest with a double but he was thrown out trying to advance to third on a fly ball to center.

    Lake County 8 Dayton 0.

Lake County tacked on a run in the sixth. They lead 9-zip.
Diaz and Arias have singles. Jesse Winker has thrown a runner out at second.

Dayton fell behind early and never threatened, falling 11-3.

Jesus Adames pitched two spotless innings of relief.

Amaral went 2-3 with a single and a double.
Junior Arias was 2-4 with a single, a solo homer, two runs scored and one driven in.

Note: Jackson Stephens will be making his 2013 debut tomorrow. The 2012 will be starting for Dayton. He had some nice numbers last season.

Billings will be at home for their season opener. Amir Garrett is the Opening Day starter.

This is listed as the Billings' roster. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats...=true&sid=t513

Phillip Ervin will bat second. Game will start shortly.

Amir strikes out the leadoff hitter on a change. Nice. Two Ks and a grounder to short. 1-2-3.
Jacob May with a full-out dive to rob Jon Matthews of a triple. Pat Kelly out to argue. LOL. They reverse the call. And guess who springs out of the opponents' dugout? Great Falls' manager Pete Rose Jr. Ervin walks in his professional plate appearance. Jonathan Reynoso singled in a run as the Mustangs post a three-spot in the first. Garrett allows an unearned run in the second, courtesy an Humberto Valor error.
Valor is hit by a pitch. Paula follows with a single and both race home on a Ty Washington single. Carlos Sanchez walked and scored on Daniel Paula's second hit of the night. Mustangs keep playing add-on. Ervin singles home Washington, who reached on an error.

Amir Garrett may be done for the night. 4IP 3H 1R 0ER 1BB 4K. I was wrong. Garrett pitched the fifth and struck out two more. Werleen Taveras has come on to register two perfect innings in relief. Nolan Becker with a scoreless frame. Abel De Los Santos on to close things out. And close it out he does, in superlative fashion. He strikes out the side.

Billings' pitchers gave up just one unearned run on four hits. They walked two and struck out 12. Does LaRosa's have a franchise in Billings?

Jon Matthews was 1-2. He tripled and walked three times.
Phillip Ervin was 1-3. He also walked and was hit by a pitch.
Daniel Paula went 2-4. He singled twice.

    Mustangs win 7-1.

AZL Reds will be at Goodyear against the AZL Indians to get their season underway.

I am not sure if this is a tentative roster or what. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats...t_ros&cid=3430

Cory Thompson is 2-2 with two runs scored. Kevin Garcia drilled a three-run shot in the second. He just turned 20 yesterday and played in the DSL in 2012. Jose Fernandez, a 19-year old Dominican, is also 2-2. Thompson is hit by a pitch his third at-bat.

Jeremy Kivel is pitching and has hurled two hitless frames to start the game. He gives up a single in a scoreless third. Kivel wild pitches a run home. 4-1 Reds through four.
    Jeremy Kivel's line for the evening: 4.2IP 3H 2R 1ER 3BB 6K.
Juan Martinez has retired all four batters he has faced, two on strikes. It seems as though Kivel and Martinez did some tandem starting. Martinez's final line: 4.1IP 4H 2R 2ER 0BB 4K.

Cory Thompson ended up 2-3, he singled, doubled. got hit by two pitches, scored three runs.
Aristides Aquino was just 1-5. But that one was a three-run bomb.
Jose Fernandez was 2-3. Two singles, a walk, two runs scored.
Kevin Garcia was 2-4. He singled, homered, scored once and drove in four.

Shin-Soo Thompson is by a pitch for the second time tonight. He rides home a two-run dinger off the bat of Aristides Aquino. 7-2 good guys in the seventh.

Final score AZL Reds 9 AZL Indians 4.

No news from the Dominican Leagues yet.

DSL Rojos jumped out to a 3-0 lead through five. Wendolyn Bautista was on cruise control at that point, having not allowed a hit. And then the Evil Empire DeathStar'ed everything in its path, winning 9-3.

Bautista: 6.1IP 5H 6R 4ER 4BB 7K. Two Rojos came on in relief and provided anything but.

Francis Azcona went 2-4. He singled, doubled and scored a run. A number of Rojos' hitters had one hit each.

DSL Evil Empire 9 DSL Rojos 3.

Phillip Ervin walked in his first plate appearance, and was HBP in his second PA after getting ahead 3-0.

Junior Arias went 2-for-4 with his 8th HR of the season tonight for Dayton. He's starting to become intriguing. He had an awful April (.185/.233/.321 - .554 OPS) but has since followed it up with a .322/.347/.478 - .825 OPS in May, and .321/.356/.589 - .945 OPS in June entering tonight, and that will go up after tonight's game. He has a long, long way to go in the BB/K department but he's only 21.

And something you don't often see.... he gained plenty of value by switching positions.

It is so foreign to have your #1 pick playing so soon. And I love it.

Amir Garrett so far: 5 IP 1 unearned run, with 6 ks and just 1 bb. I hope he quits basketball soon.
