And what do you know, he leads off the next inning.

"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

Walt says team could improve lead off spot. Says unconcerned has no lefty starter. Says would be attractive to put Chappy in rotation, but would be hard to do unless they got another closer.

That is is for Lynn. Good job to get into the Cards bullpen in the 3rd in game 1 of the series.

Lynn out. Reds getting to the Cards pen very early. This is pretty much a dream scenario for the weekend.

Here's a heretical statement. If necessary, I"d use Chapman two innings tonight. I would pull out all the stops to win this sucker.

Pirates have tied the Brewmen at 2 each in the fourth.

Why pull Lynn so early other than he was getting killed? He only was pitching in the third and only gave up 3 runs.

Cards have got to be pretty desperate to.....at a minimum win the series.

I think it shows how big this series is for the Cardinals. Even as bad as Lynn looked normally they would not pull a starter that early.

One reason is they have a good replacement in Kelly who has started games.

Bruce with that upper cut swing flies out a thousand feet in the air.

    Line drives, Jay.
