    Stubbs in the 2-hole

For the love of Pete...Dusty, please get Drew Stubbs out of the two-hole ASAP! At this point it comes down to common sense. He is nearly an automatic out. And not just that, he's not even putting the ball in play! Cozart was on third today with one out and he couldn't even get the bat on the ball. Just put the ball in play man!

I know we've all griped about Stubbs and his (lack of) production this year but enough is enough. Now, we could all point to fact that we just swept AZ and that it really shouldn't be a big deal, but it is! No playoff team can afford an automatic out at the top of the order.

We all like Stubbs' speed. We all like his defense, and if Dusty feels those are good enough reasons to keep him in the lineup, then ok. JUST NOT IN THE 2-HOLE! Please, Dusty, move him to 7 or 8. Now. Yes, I know, there's a good chance he'll get moved there when JV comes back. But in the meantime, I just don't get how Dusty feels this team is best served with Stubbs batting second.

(Just needed to get that out of my system)

I apologize. I didn't know the one that said "Uncle" was about Stubbs. I would have posted there.

In the meantime, thanks for your thoughtful and encouraging comment.

It's actually pretty simple-Dusty likes speed at the top of the lineup. It's going to take the GM getting involved like happened with Patterson to get him out of the 2 hole.

We all like speed at the top. But it's completely irrelevant when your guy at the top is 2 for his last 26 with 16 K's.

It is basically just stubbornness at this point. Dusty doesn't want to admit that he has been doing the wrong thing all along when it comes to putting Stubbs near the top of the order. It's either stubborness or a complete lack of comprehension that OBP is important. I don't think too many managers in the league would give so many plate appearances to such an unproductive hitter. It might be OK to keep Stubbs in the lineup nearly everyday because of his defense, but putting him at the top of the batting order is just not smart.

Aren't you a big Maddon fan? BJ Upton has 248 PAs hitting 2nd this season and is sporting an overall .245/.298/.410 line.

Overall TB is getting .220/.299/.397 from the #2 spot in the lineup.

Overall, the #2 spot in the AL is hitting .253/.314./.391 this year.

That number is skewed by the detritus of the AL, a group the Rays are decidedly not a member of.

They have other, better options than Upton for the top of the lineup, but are forgoing them. It would seem this is not an exclusively Reds related problem.

Stubbs is a decent #2 hitter as long as Votto is in the 3-hole. Since Votto went down, Stubbs has struggled, and I don't think that's a coincidence.

So does that mean it's ok for Dusty to use Stubbs there?
