Oakland A's... a horse of a different color

The A's are now in first place for the wild card standings in the AL and knocking on the Rangers' door for the AL West title. What's amazing about it, though, is how putrid their offense has been.

They're averaging just barely 4 runs per game. Their lineup tonight consisted of these on-base percentages by batting order:

    .318
    .299
    .326
    .358
    .343
    .309
    .263
    .265
    .261

Their pitching has clearly carried them. I have been amazed, though, as I keep waiting for their rotation to come down to earth but it simply hasn't happened. It is going to be interesting to see if they can catch up with the Rangers.

Wow! Looks kind of familiar. Here's the Reds OBP by lineup of their most recent game:

    .287
    .287
    .335
    .331
    .354
    .320
    .193
    .211
    .271

Best record (and they won that game) in baseball! Moral = Pitching and defense wins games.
