    Valaika, Smith outrighted

The Cincinnati Reds have outrighted infielder Chris Valaika and right-handed pitcher Jordan Smith to Triple-A Louisville, making room for newly promoted Tony Cingrani on the 40-man roster.

What does this mean? Outrighted to New Orleans? I don't get it.

They were outright assigned to the minors, though I think it was Louisville rather than New Orleans.

This is from the Reds website...

To clear space on the 40-man roster, the Reds sent outright to Louisville infielder Chris Valaika and reliever Jordan Smith. Both have big league experience with Cincinnati, but neither were called up in 2012. Valaika batted only .223 in 85 games, while Smith was 3-3 with a 4.61 ERA and 13 saves in 51 games for the Bats.

So they don't get a free trip to New Orleans?

If you think New Louisville is bad, you should have seen Old Louisville.

Marty, Fay and Kelch were talking about these moves on the broadcast. And they noted that 2 spots were opened and only 1 filled, leaving an open spot on the 40-man, to which they rumored a trade may be forthcoming.

    Stay tuned.

If so, it will just be a Willie Bloomquist type like in 2010 who won't be on the playoff roster.

    Correct.

I'm thinking something might be going down with Gregorius.
