    Re: The Howl

Got a text last night from a friend watching the game in Seattle, asking me what that horribly annoying sound that Reds fans were making was. I had no idea what he was talking about. I guess this was it. Apparently not everyone is so enthralled with it.

Dwight Schrute was somehow involved in this...

Is there an audio clip of the howl anywhere? I went to bed long before the howling started and I know my DVR wasn't set long enough to hear this when it happened. Sounded like it kicked in around midnight. Was there a full moon last night?

I thought it sounded like the noise people make when the wave goes around. I figured it was some sort of parody on the wave, since there weren't enough people there to actually get one going. Anybody else get that impression? Or have other ideas on what the thing actually was, and what started it?

No, it was annoying... but not as bad as

    1. Thom getting off on it
    2. Thom and Chris's incessant sac bunt meme

    Complete with Thom Brennaman bewilderment!

Thanks! I thought it was like a Rebel Yell. Would have been funny if the PA had put on Werewolves of London right about that time.

This was probably a given to everyone else from the moment it started, but I just put 2 and 2 together in remembering it was bark in the park night last night.

    Re: The Howl

I didn't stay up late enough to hear the howling, but I like it. Like Brennaman said, it would be good if it caught on with bigger home crowds. Cincy crowds have always been way too unremarkable, IMO. Yeah it's kind of silly, but it's something. And it's got way more character than just waving a towel or noisemaker.

Oh it came from the DOGS. It was dog night at the ballpark; people were trying to sound like the dogs. (Wonderful Monds, I missed that too.) All the more reason not to continue it. I think it's annoying and distracting. But I tend not to like loud noises unless they're coming from instruments.

    Re: The Howl

Even Pirates fans were saying on their blog how useless it was to put down a sac bunt by the 13th/14th given how both teams failed so many times before.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

    Re: The Howl

This team really doesn't have anything fun or unique attached to it like the 1990 team did with "The Nasty Boys" or the "Can't Touch it" song.

I however hope to Gawd this howling thing dies a quick death.

Years from now I don't want to hear a dog howling and think of the 12' Reds.
