Aroldis Chapman threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session today at Wrigley Field.
“It went real well,” Chapman said through translator Tomas Vera. “The shoulder feels good.”
Chapman has hasn’t pitched since Sept. 10 because of shoulder fatigue. He said the fatigue is gone.
“None at all,” he said.
He threw a standard bullpen. It’s the first time he’s thrown off the mound since being shut down.
“I was throwing normal as a bullpen,” he said. “When you throw a bullpen, you don’t throw 100 percent. No pitcher does that. I was throwing my normal bullpen, the percentage I usually do when I throw a bullpen.”
Chapman says he’s not ready to return to game action.
“I feel good,” he said. “But I feel like I need to throw at least two or three more times to work on command. I don’t feel like I have the command.”
That’s normal.
“You just don’t jump in there after a week off and have pinpoint command,” pitching coach Bryan Price said. “But arm worked really well. The velocity, rotation on his ball was good.”
Price said Chapman will play catch tomorrow.
That's an encouraging update, certainly.
