The series in May where they are home for the Indians for 2 and immediately go to Cleveland for 2 more is kind of strange

    Re: 2013 Schedule is out

The two game series are a result of the adjustments they had to make to always have one interleagule series going on next year.

As far as interleague goes they have 2 games home and away with the Indians they also have 2 games home and away with the A's. Then they have the Angels at home to start the year and a 3 game series in Texas next year. I am not sure the Reds have ever played in that Texas stadium before.

The April schedule looks tough to start. Not only starting with the Angels but 2 series with the Cardinals, 2 series with the Nationals and a series with the Phillies all in the first month.

Apparently, MLB is doing this for everyone that same week. That is, that Monday and Tuesday everyone is playing their "natural" interleague rival for 2 games, then going to the other team's city for 2. Except in Texas, where the Rangers have planned day-night DH against ARI, then have Tuesday off, then are @ ARI for 2. Not sure why, maybe something going on in the Dallas are that Tuesday.

BTW, with the schedule change some of the "natural" rivalries are new, like Astros-Rockies and Rangers-D-backs.

I noticed the dreaded West Coast road swing in July after the All-Star Break.

    Re: 2013 Schedule is out

Why isn't the schedule simply this:

    5 x 3 = 15 (interleague games)
1 x 7 = 7 (interleague rival games) (every three years a team plays an additional 4 intraleague intradivisional games)
    10 x 6 = 60 (intraleague interdivisional games)
    4 x 20 = 80 (intraleague intradivisional games)
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. -- Carl Sagan (Pale Blue Dot)

Reds will coming to DC again in April for 4 games once again. It was the same way in 2012 just two weeks earlier than 2013.

Yeah, I'm not liking that I have to plan my Reds games for that early in the season again. Hopefully I can get to Philly that weekend in May too since this season fell through.
    Is it "next season" yet?

Well, I am absolutely hating season-long interleague play.
