    Re: Reds-Marlins series 9/14

Vin Scully just said something on the game that requires me to correct my initial post. Dodgers and Cards play 11 games this year, not just 8, and LA leads the seasons series 4-3 so far. I missed a series swept by the Dodgers in May.

Odd for a Central team and a West team to play 11 games, but that's how it looks.

Stubhub has some ridiculouly cheap seats for this series at the new Marlins Park. Unlucky Marlins season ticket holders gave up months ago. I'll be there Sat night or Sunday.

Tomorrow , Monday, Phils at Mets, after Phils dropped three of four to Astros.

Tomorrow, Pirates go for the split at Chicago.

New Reds series to start Tuesday, will start another thread then. At Chicago hopefully to clinch during the week.

Phillies probably did themselves by losing three of four. The Cards do have good chance now to pull away in the wild card. IIRC, their next 9 games are against the Astros and Cubs.

Just shows you that in battling for a second wild card you don't have to be that good to get the spot.

Cards still have to be considered favorite, despite terrible won-lost record of late. They went 2-5 on the west coast trip. They are something like 6-13 over the last 19 games they played.

Now their schedule gets easier for awhile, before finishing up with the Nats and Reds. And who knows if the Nats and Reds will play their best players.
