The defense was given in purposeful irony to point out the silliness of the Cabrera's Triple Crown = MVP argument. I've made my full reasoning for Trout's merits many times, in detail, throughout this thread.
But please, make up your mind. Does batting average matter or not? It can't matter for Cabrera but not for Trout.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
In 2010, Joey Votto posted a 171 OPS+.
In 2012, Mike Trout posted a 171 OPS+.
Basically, Mike Trout has been Joey Votto from 2010, but with much more defensive and base running value.
And that is why, at least I, am saying it is a clear cut choice that he is deserves the MVP award.
Congratulations to former Carolina Mudcat, Miguel Cabrera, on winning the Triple Crown!
Pretty impressive.
I think Trout should get it, but I also can't say I have a huge problem with Miggy getting it either. Guy accomplished a rare feat and had a fantastic year.
The Tigers are going to the World Series. IMO, that makes Cabrera's case a little stronger.
It would be nice if he ends up being the MVP of the World Series, though.

If I had a nickel for every time someone posted that, I could retire.......
Even announcers seem to miss this fact sometimes.
If voting was not done prior to the playoffs, why would anyone even pretend to predict the winner, when the playoffs would usually determine (or at least vastly effect) the winner?
And what if you had a nickel for every time an announcer didn't know something he should know?

Do not underestimate the importance of Cabrera being willing to move to 3B, one of the toughest spots on the field, so that Fielder could play 1st. HUge.
Cabrera gets my vote without a scintilla of doubt.
It's good to have two candidates who 'deserve' to win as opposed to some years.
Historically both are excellent choices. My vote would have to go to Cabrera though.
