Burn down the disco. Hang the blessed DJ. Because the music that he constantly plays, it says nothing to me about my life.
I want my announcer to be a homer. I love Vin, and there is not and never will be anyone like him, but I also love The Hawk, Marty, Sterling, and others. They play to a select market who follows THEIR team. It matters not.
"You only have to bat a thousand in two things; flying and heart transplants. Everything else you can go 4-for-5."
I am always curious about something...for the home team flagship radio and tv broadcasts, does anyone expect the announcers to be neutral?
Its the last thing I would want.
If its a national broadcast, of course it should be neutral. But for the hometeam calls? I expect there to be some identification with and even rooting for the hometeam.
". . . acquiring J. Blanton from Oakland for, apparently, Bailey/Cueto, Votto and a lesser prospect. I do it in a second . . . The Reds' equation this year is simple: Make Matt Belisle your #3 starter . . . trade for Blanton, win 85 or more, be in the mix all summer." - Paul Daugherty, Feb. 8, 2008
I expect a home team announcer to be a little biased, but I could do without them using we and us. I think Milo Hamilton is the biggest offender in that regard.
I don't mind a home announcer being a little biased. As long as he gives the other team credit when they do well and not try to put down their performance because the "home" team was bad that day. Also don't like it when they start blaming the umpires for the teams ills. Bob Carpenter of the Nats is really bad for that. The White Sox guys are the worst. Especially Harrleson. Just unlistenable at times. I would have thought the Cards announcers would be much higher. They are extremely biased and are in the same league as Harrelson and Stone.

The #4 ranked Astros are the "local" broadcast I get stuck with whenever the Reds play them. Both Jim Deshaies and Bill Brown are enthusiastic practitioners of we-speak. (I think they caught it from Milo Hamilton.) This season can't have been much fun for them.
