I can't help but imagine its FRIGGIN distracting to both teams. I hate it.
Thom Brenneman is the most to blame for this mess. The extra inning night that it broke out a couple weeks ago he would not let it go. If he had not acknowledged it and bemoaned the point, it would have only been a few drunk fans having fun and it would have died off.
Now, it's a plague.

Yes I did not mind it when it first happened but it is now getting very annoying. I did not get to see too much of last night's game but at one point around the 6th inning it looked like Cueto was having trouble with his leg possibly. Everyone was concerned in the dugout and trainer almost went out before being waved off and in the background all you could hear were a few idiots doing the woo.
Only time anyone should "woo" is in honor of Ric Flair.

+1 Watched the game on MLB the other night against the Dodgers and eventually put it on mute so I didn't have to hear the "woo's."
THE WOO is not funny and is OBNOXIOUS Reds fans. Maybe if the players just came out and said they were distracted by it people would stop....

You guys don't get it. If we embrace it, it would become the most-annoying thing in the world for our opponents. It would give GABP an extra home-field advantage IMO.
Also, I think it's funny.
I hope our fans keep doing it. (And I have no doubt we will.)
If it was organized so that it was used only in the right situations when it would be annoying to the Reds opponents, I would agree. But it's completely random now, and simply annoys everyone, the Reds, the Reds opponents, most of the crowd, most of the TV and radio audience, etc.
It simply makes Cincinnati fans sound like stupid, drunken fools, in other words, Cubs fans.

I think it's just annoying as a sound and a random, invented, self-centered fan gesture, which I loathe on principle due to its having nothing to do with the sport or the team (see also: Fenway and Sweet Caroline). But my major issue with it is the distraction factor. I completely buy that the players hate it. As loud as it is to people watching on TV/listening on radio, it has to be that much louder in the center of the field (i.e., the pitcher's mound), where the sound is trapped and reverberating across the stadium. *I* find it horribly distracting and I'm not trying to throw a baseball 90 miles an hour with pinpoint accuracy in the exact spot of the world where this sound is probably most piercing.
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.
How is it a home field advantage if it's distracting our own players?
