I think the Reds are sending a message with their handling of the lineups down the stretch here. It depends what your goal is. If your goal is to get Cueto 20 wins, then yes you play your starters today. If your goal is to win the World Series, you try to get as many players as possible in a groove. You let the bench guys play a bit and let the starters rest up for the playoffs. A hot hitting bench can be a huge difference maker in the post-season. I think we're fine.

    A run!
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Valdez and Cairo playing is more confusing than anything this season.

    Phillips singles to right.
Valdez singles behind Phillips on nicely executed a hit-and-run moving Phillips to 3rd.
Votto doubles down the 3rd baseline where a fan grabs the ball off the field scoring Phillips and moving Valdez to 3rd. Reds 1 - Pirates 0.
Frazier grounds out to SS scoring Valdez. Reds 2 - Pirates 0 - 1 out.
Heisey strikes out looking. 2 outs.
Cairo flies out to left. 3 outs.

Reds 2 - Pirates 0 in the middle of the 3rd.

Wandy at 64 pitches after 3 innings.

A Pirates fan did the same thing yesterday. They just took the ball away.

Got a text from a friend at the game saying it looks like Phillips hurt his quad or groin. "He's in pain. That's what you get for stealing on a rainy day when this game has zero consequence." Great.
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

That's gotta be an error on Votto. Pretty bad play.

Dang! Phillips almost tricked him at 2nd with that fake move like the ball squirted into right.

Reds go down 1-2-3. 2-2 heading to the bottom of the 4th.
