    Re: Bobby Valentine fired

    Funny thing IMO...

When the REDS hired Dusty Baker, a lot of RZ members acted like "well you get what you deserve". Favoring worthless vets, ruined arms, etc.

Now two division winners after a 15-yr drought... and we still have some that think he is a joke. Some have confessed to being wrong, but believe it or not there are still the I-am-so-smart-but-for-some-reason-not-a-MLB-GM types that think 97 wins should have been 117 wins. Of course being a MLB manager goes with being 2nd guessed. Hopefully (not betting a dime on it though) some have realized it could be worse. Please keep this man far-far away from Cincinnati!

The crime in all of this is Valentine getting to pocket his salary in 2013 since he signed a 2 yr contract

I dont see Dusty coming back next year. I dont know why but I have that gut feeling. Im hoping the Tribe passes on Francona. Id love for him to be the next Reds manager.(and no im not a Dusty hater. I actually think he does a good job) As for Valentine. He is an absolute joke and I hope his and Castellini's freindship remains a long distant one.

I thought it was for Valentine that they did that Dodgers trade, which makes it seem even more incredibly short sighted.

I would say they did it because they found someone willing to eat most of the Crawford contract.

I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.

Bobby is a smart baseball guy but a bad manager of people. Works the other way too. I thought Jerry Manuel was a great manager of people, but a horrible baseball guy. Nature of the beast in MLB.

I would really like to see Dave Martinez get a shot with a good franchise.

It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...

And all of Beckett's. Without going into the details, the new CBA may have greatly increased the potential cost of going over the luxury tax limit, the Punto trade saved the Red Sox from not foreseeing that change before committing that much of their payroll to those players.

Actually, if they can find a MLB team with about 24 Japanese speakers he might do ok.

I think the only way Bobby V did well in Japan was no one could understand him enough to hate him.

And he will be very deserving of it too.

I'm surprised they didn't ax him after his comments about Fidel Castro in April.

Was this two separate fly-catching instances, or did you catch both in one swipe? I'm not even sure which one would be more impressive.
