And I don't want to pick on the ump there simply because that was a fabulous call on the missed tag and him beating Wieters to the dish. But some clarification sure would be nice.
You can take wide turns around bases 'till your heart's content so long as you're not doing so to avoid being tagged out

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the rule is that as long as a runner stays in the dirt area around home, and does not make any move toward the dugout, he can do what he wants to avoid being tagged out at home.

But Ichiro did move significantly to avoid being tagged out. But i don't think it was o much that it was against the rules. Most of his movement was around home plate which I believe is allowed.

And that's different than rounding third because he was avoiding a tag

Frank Robinson throws out the first pitch of the Nats/Cards game. Nice day in DC with plenty of sunshine.

Cards up early... Allen Craig again. 2-out double down the LF-line to score a man from 1st.

Just typical. Mediocre all year, sneak into playoffs, become world beaters. Seen that movie twice before, still think it sucks.

Sure are ruining the Nats first postseason home game.

Crowd was really loud until the Cards came to bat. They waited 79 years for this?

Yeah. The Cardinals are the epitome of why it is a bad idea to let 2nd-place teams into the post-season. It cheapens the regular season to have the results of a 162 game season overridden by a 5 game series. It cheapens the championships won by great teams of yesteryear to have their achievement matched by mediocre teams that can't win 90 games and get buried in their own little division.

Bud Selig's stupid home field "advantage" didn't help things either.

I'm with Servo. They sneak in and suddenly can't be stopped. And there are people who, assuming we advance, want to play The Cards in the NLCS? No way.

To be the champs ya gotta beat the champs. I agree with you. Id rather play the Nationals in a 7 game series but maybe thats why people want to play the Cards.

I'll settle for beating the guys who beat the champs.

and of course the Nationals now get a bad call against them. Should have first and second with no one out but a blown call at first costs them a runner.

Jim Joyce from the infamous Andres Galaraga missed call also missed this call.
