This is why having a second wildcard is STUPID.
5th best team in the league (and 10th best in baseball) now has a shot at the World Series. Only Bud Selig could pull this off.
After tonight I won't be reading a damn word about baseball until March.
I am so bitter! Things like this never happen to us. Never
2009 Attendance Record: 3-5 2010 Attendance Record: 2-9 2015 Attendance Record: 2-0
2011 Attendance Record: 3-4 2012 Attendance Record: 3-4
2013 Attendance Record: 5-2 2014 Attendance Record: 3-1
All four LDS series' went the wrong way. O' ye baseball Gods, what are you trying to tell me?
Playoff experience. Priceless.
The Cardinals have got to be the luckiest team on the planet. The planets have definitely aligned for them again this year. They get every possible lucky break. Its embarrassing for baseball to see such a mediocre team advance while the best teams get eliminated in crapshoot short series.
How long until baseball realizes the Wild Card cheapens the regular season to the point of total irrelevance? Does the integrity of the World Series mean nothing these days? Might as well give it to another mediocre 2nd place team again this year.
In the 3rd millenium drama, excitement and cold hard cash money are more important than awarding the championship to the best team. The days of the best team winning the World Series are gone forever. It is just an entertainment spectacle rather than a true test of skill.
Just as I felt the Reds were done in the middle of game 4, I can already tell the Cardinals are (painfully) going to win the World Series again this year.
Baseball sucks right now.
I couldn't have written it up worse. We win two on the road and get knocked out, Cardinals advance in a last second halfcourt prayer, Yankees beat the underdog again...just gross. I don't think I'll be watching too much more of this postseason.
The playoffs are always going to favor the Wild Card teams, to some degree at least, over the dominant division winners because the WC teams have been in playoff mode for at least a month, battling back and forth with every game meaning something.
The dominant division winners like the Reds, meanwhile, are trying to get ready by giving the Wilson Valdezs and Miguel Cairos at-bats.
A lot of good that does. I'd rather be playing stressful baseball all along than try to flip the light switch back on after chilling for the last month.
The Cards, nowhere near the best team in their division let alone baseball, have figured out this dirty secret and are exploiting it.

Not going to get upset at the Cardinals moving on as wild card 2, if baseball went with the real traditional method of only the best team in each league, the Reds wouldn't have been in either, once you let the 2nd in you have already opened the box.
Go Gators!
Just woke up to this news. My Gawd! Being up 2 runs in the 9th, with two outs, a strike away from advancing? Now that was a choke job!
