I think ATL goes after Josh Hamilton as well. Prado moves in to play third and the resign Bourn.

    How about this for fun.
Arroyo pitched his way back into some value. Trade now when his value is that high.
    Money saved: $11.5M

    Rolen to retire.
    Money saved: $6.5M

    Ludwick declines option.
    Money saved: $2.5M

That's $20M to give toward Josh. Add a few more million and get it done.

    Josh takes over LF.
    Frazier plays 3B
Chapman starts in place of Arroyo like expected.

Billy Hamilton takes over for Stubbs.

Sign a cheap veteran starter to come in and compete for the 5th starter spot with one of our young guys.

Use Stubbs, Leake, Heisey and whatever else to address the bullpen.

Some of you members are so greedy. We won 97 games...because of PITCHING not offense. Look at the rangers, they had argueably the best offense in MLB, and see how far that carried them.

They couldn't go farther because of the lack of consistent pitching.

It's just dumb to trade away a reliable arm like arroyo just so you can free up some cash. Besides, a rotation of Chapman AND Arroyo is much more potent than a rotation of Chapman and Leake.

Josh Hamilton is one of my favorite players in all of baseball if not the favorite but I would be scared to throw the money at him that some team will give him because of his inability to stay healthy.

I don't see Josh Hamilton reciecing anything more than 4 years. He'll be 32 next season and unless the yankees sign him, he will be playing in a park that is alot harder for lefties to hit homeruns in.

Not to mention his batting average has gone down for the last two seasons. He is also still a recovering addict of cocaine which means he is susceptible to relapses, and because of his substance his abuse his body will start breaking down before most people's do.

Furthermore, since he came up with the reds in '07 he has only played 140 games in a season twice. And another indicator that his overall production may be going down is the fact that he struck out over 160 times this past season. Anyone who offers him a deal of longer than 4 years and 80mil (heavily front loaded) is absolutely out of their mind.

I am greedy. who will the baseball world remember first? who won the NL Central in 2010 and 2012?? or who won the World Series those seasons?? Enough said.. Its been 22 years since the Reds been to a World Series.. The FO keeps saying the team is on the right track.. a 3 game loss at home hurt.. they have to take the next step and get a couple hitters to go along with our pitching.. Bailey pitched a 1 hitter and gave up 1 run and our offense went to sleep at home.. Got to fix it.. the teams that win in the post season score at least 1 more run than the other team.. cant expect our pitching staff to take the mound hoping to pitch a shut out every time..

Those days are long gone. The Boss is long gone. Granted the Yankees have to do something to make up for this post season debacle, but they aren't about to spend that kind of money. Their payroll is at 200 million now, and that's not counting the big bucks they will have to spend to resign Mariano. And Cano needs to be resigned.
Not to mention that there were a lot of empty seats at the big ballpark in the South Bronx this past season. Yankees probably won't keep their pledge to get under 189 million, but Hamilton isn't in their future.

Good pitching beats good hitting. Enough said.

The reds are a small market team. If Hamilton doesn't perform his "weight in gold" than the reds are screwed for another 10+ years.

Blame the fans. Not the FO. Can't have 15,000 fans weekdays, and expect the fo to have enough money to pursue big free agents.

Starting to become true even for big market teams- see Yankees: ARod.

Getting Hamilton would be a startling move. Startling, in the sense that I can't believe the Reds would be that dumb to go after him.

We're a small market team with relatively overextended resources at this point in time; extensions to Phillips and Votto last year have filled up our quota of impact deals for the time being. We'd be better served stabilizing all of our unfilled positions (LF, bench infielders, arguably CF with solid short-term contracts that can help us compete while we still have guys like Cueto at a reasonable cost.

    Re: Josh Hamilton ?

I would say that Castellini should open the wallet to sign him. Yes we are a small market team and yes we are nearing the limit of our salary. But with Ludwick likely leaving and Rolen likely retiring, you have a little money to work with (yes I know Votto's escalates to 17M). But with Hamilton, you probably could get some extra revenue from attendance, jerseys, autographs, and other events that could help cover some of his cost. Also, Bronson is likely to retire in a season or two so that money could go towards our young SPs or Hamilton. I know it is a long shot, but it could be outweighed by revenue and bring a championship to Cincy
