They play in a weak division and are replacing Delmon Young's .707 OPS from this year with an several time All-Star with a career line of .303/.370/.469/.840 before they make a single move this winter so they're in a great spot right now.

No they are getting Victor Martinez back who hit .330 and drove in 103 for them in 2011 before missing the year. So the team that won the AL are replacing one of the worst DH in the AL with an elite bat and opening up 6.75M to spend elsewhere as a bonus.

They also are free of Valverde and his 9M so they are in line to make a strong run at Rafael Soriano for his replacement. They also have other money coming off the books to look to upgrade in RF or SS if they decline Peralta's option. They also have big time prospect Nick Castellanos who they could deal to land a key player if they want to move him since 3B, 1B and DH are locked up for a couple years in Motown. Elvis Andrus could be on their targets list with the Rangers having Jurickson Profar MLB ready.

Usually the odds on favorite are the ones who don't even make the playoffs or get knocked off in the first round.

If anything, it's usually somebody that you wouldn't have thought.

That means the extra 20M they have will go to fill other needs. All the key players to their run are back and they already added an impact bat in Martinez and have the money to add one more superstar or two star players to their strong core.
