Now that the position core of EDLC, McLain, Steer, Freidl, Benson, CES and Marte are off the board, time to focus on pitchers. We have Greene, Abbott, Lodolo, Ashcraft and Lowder. Voting Phillips here.

I think we should add Acuna, Aguiar and Richardson to the list. I'd vote them ahead of any of the above choices except Phillips, and maybe Petty and Williamson.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

2023 Expected Weighted On Base Average:

    Jonathan India - .341
    Will Benson - .339
    Spencer Steer - .333
    TJ Friedl - .286

I get that India is arbitration eligible after this year, but still, his true hitting ability is in at least the same tier as these other guys who have gone before him. There's no way a platoon guy with an unsustainable BABIP like Will Benson has more value than Jonathan India. And I'm someone who would be fine with trading India this offseason. India is a lot closer to Steer than what many want to believe on here. Once Marte is ready, there will only be room on the roster for one of Steer and India, and I'm fine with it being Steer as he has more years of control. But if Spencer Steer is the fourth most valuable Reds asset, then the organization isn't nearly as strong as what we want to believe it is.

    Went with Phillips.

My issue with India is that he's position-limited. If Cruz and McLain are the future middle infield and Steer/Marte are at 3B, he's expendable.

Benson's BAbip may come down some, but there's a 160 point OPS gap between him and India right now. Based on what I've seen from Benson's plate discipline and power I see no reason to think India will out hit him at any point in the future. We have nearly 3 seasons worth of data on India, and he's a .256 .351 . 422 .773 hitter with a 104 OPS+. That's who he is regardless of what some super scientific models say he should be. Benson has more upside that he's just tapping into.

I agree with JCM. This seems like a ton of nonsense when I read the formula for this. Friedl's value is tanked in this model because he's the best bunter in all of mlb.
The fact that you have almost 2 and a half years of hitting data for a guy but this Stat tells us his "true hitting ability is different" is absurd.

In the 8th inning today McClain shortened his swing to send a single through the huge whole to the opposite field. With this model, that swing would lower his expected oba essentially counting as an out instead of accounting for his skill behind the plate.
(Referring to Jack Hannahan signing with a Korean team)
Since there are no teams on the moon, I guess South Korea's far enough from Cincinnati to satisfy me.

I'm not sure if you are still going, but as far as adding an additional candidate I nominate Lyon Richardson. Fangraph's Longenhagen is updating his Reds prospect rankings and it looks like he's bumped Richardson all the way up to 3rd just ahead of fellow SPs Lowder, Petty and Phillips (#s 4-6). Reds just promoted Richardson to AAA btw.
