    The Official Heavy Metal Thread

I think RZ can support a heavy metal thread. This thread is to share heavy music. I invision this thread covering classic metal, thrash, nu-metal, black metal and any other heavy music there is. I kind of stole this idea from the AOR thread I like so much. The point is not to tell someone what sucks, but to share what you like. Although you do not have to post links, they are appreciated (I will listen to every one that is posted). Also, anyone wanting to share news (new releases, live performances, deaths) this would be a perfect place to do so.

I hope everyone enjoys the first post. They are some of my favorites, from bands spanning from 1970-current.

    Black Sabbath-N.I.B.

Simply put, my favorite riff of all time.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOXPSSZkFD0

    Metallica-For Whom The Bell Tolls

My favorite song on my favorite Metallica record

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_eGXPzSzAg

    Danzig-Dirty Black Summer

    Love the guitar, love Danzig

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kRtTtpG8Ls

    Pantera-Drag The Waters

    Huge, heavy riff.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hx8TW6sYys

    Epica-Cry For The Moon

Something completely different. I dig this European symphonic metal. I saw Epica last year, and she (Simone Simons) sounds just as good live as on the CD.)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e77tL...eature=related

The above are not necessarily the best artists (or the best by these artists), but a great place to start a thread about heavy metal.
What if this is as good as it gets?

As a classical musician who loved metal Metallica's S & M was pretty much the greatest thing that ever happened to my ears.

Sorry for your experience. From what I understand from about '76 until Ozzy left it was a crap chute whether you would get good Sabbath or bad Sabbath live. I didn't see them until they were doing Ozzfest in either 01 or 02. Great show!

I saw them in '85 with ex-Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillian. They were disgustingly bad.

For me - and due to my "advanced age" - heavy metal is still found in the 60s/70s....

Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Who, Deep Purple, Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Grand Funk, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Rush, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, etc.

Now that doesn't mean I still don't appreciate (listen) to those that came later, beginning in the late 70's, such as Van Halen, Scorpions, Metallica, Def Leppard, Judas Priest, etc.

i think these guys come the closest to the sabbath vibe than about anybody i think a lot of bands that try to copy sabbath seem to miss the swing /jazz vibe that Bill ward brought to those early sabbath records.

    \m/

Metallica was my favorite band in high school and then some. I wore a different Metallica t-shirt to school most every day except Fridays which were Good Mourning/Black Friday. I had hair to my ass and played bass in a band. I loved metal. Still do, but for different reasons these days, now its about music more than anger and attitude, though I still love it for those reasons sometimes too.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13, 15
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

Metal? Isn't that the satan worshipping music? Why, I can't even understand what they are saying. How can you listen to that crap? Kill your mother, rape your dog? That's just a bunch of noise.

Have I covered all the stupid cliches yet? Anyone who says that to me, you aren't clever, you aren't funny, and I hate you.

This thread will quickly become my favorite thread on the board most likely. I'm on my phone right now but I will post some cool stuff later.

Like that Epica above? Not quite as gothic. Little more mainstream sounding.

I'm only including this because the Knight Rider riff around the 2 minutes in cracks me up.

You know how everyone says old bands suck when they do new material? Those people are dumb. This rules.

    New TESTAMENT!!!

New Kamelot with their excellent new singer.

My favorite Nightwish song: It will get stuck in your head for days. I'm partial to the live version so that's what I put up.

And finally for now....my favorite band in the world....ever.

Yeah, I like a lot of different subgenres.

To answer your questions: Yes. Then you aren't listening close enough. I turn it up really loud. No, it's kill your babies and rape your mothers. Is not.

Maiden is still my favorite band, the four albums they released in the 2000's are among their best. Also Maiden is a three axe attack.

True about three axes in Maiden for a bit of time (and today). But I am an old-school'r who still claims "Hallowed Be Thy Name" as his fav Maiden song (from the Murray-Smith days). I guess my favorite IM releases are Number of the Beast, Powerslave and Killers. Yep, old school! A lot of newer metal bands cite Maiden as an influence.
