Haven't seen them, yet. Was going to go when they toured with Gamma Ray awhile back but couldn't wind up making it.

Ok, this song is kind of long. Hang in there for the whole thing if you have time. It's great. I think I'm in the minority, but this is my favorite Fates Warning album.

they need more of that thrashiness. not a big fan of the slow, grindy, old-Sabbath/Candlemass-esq bit.

I saw them in '85 with ex-Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillian. They were disgustingly bad.

For me - and due to my "advanced age" - heavy metal is still found in the 60s/70s....

Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Who, Deep Purple, Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Grand Funk, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Rush, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, etc.

Now that doesn't mean I still don't appreciate (listen) to those that came later, beginning in the late 70's, such as Van Halen, Scorpions, Metallica, Def Leppard, Judas Priest, etc.

i think these guys come the closest to the sabbath vibe than about anybody i think a lot of bands that try to copy sabbath seem to miss the swing /jazz vibe that Bill ward brought to those early sabbath records.

Not to nitpick but Gillan toured with Sabbath in 83-84. He reunited with Purple later in 84.

Won't argue with you guy because it was close to 30 years ago, so you're probably right. LOL

The only album they did together was Born Again (which, IMO, was terrible).

And speaking of Gillian reuniting with DP - I loved Perfect Strangers.

I actually dug Born Again. It was different, but I really dig Zero the Hero, Disturbing the Priest, and Keep It Warm. The production is very harsh on the ears though.

And Perfect Strangers is a good record too.
