The Royals signed Willy Taveras to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to Major League Spring Training, MLB.com's Evan Drellich reports (via Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com on Twitter). The 30-year-old outfielder last played for an MLB team in 2010.
Taveras, a client of Burton Rocks LTD, explained in September that he intends to play at the MLB level again. "I just need a chance to get back in baseball," he told Drellich. Taveras has a .274/.320/.327 batting line at the MLB level with 195 career stolen bases. The right-handed hitter has played for the Astros, Rockies, Nationals and Reds in his seven MLB seasons. He played on two NL pennant winners: the 2005 Astros and the 2007 Rockies.

The Reds and Indians are deep in talks on a trade that would send Shin-Soo Choo to Cincinnati.
The Indians would receive center fielder Drew Stubbs and shortstop Didi Gregorius in return. The Reds are expected to receive another player in addition to Choo.
The Reds plan to use Choo in center field and as their leadoff man.

1:39pm: It's a five-year, $125MM contract, ESPNDallas.com reports.
Hamilton received and turned down a qualifying offer from the Rangers, which means he'll be linked to draft pick compensation. The Rangers will obtain a compensatory selection for losing Hamilton, and the Angels will have to surrender their top pick (#22 overall) in 2013.

Ty Wiggington to the Cardinals.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/87...-year-contract
ST. LOUIS -- Free agent infielder Ty Wigginton and the St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to a $5 million, two-year contract.
General manager John Mozeliak announced the agreement Friday and said Wigginton gives the Cardinals a right-handed bat "with punch."
The 35-year-old Wigginton, who will make $2.5 million annually, has hit 15 or more homers six times during 11 big-league seasons. He had 22 home runs in 2010, when he was an All-Star with Baltimore.
Anibal Sanchez heads back to Tigers. Cubs rebuffed. 5 years 80 million. Really? For Sanchez? Yikes.

Sanchez reportedly had reached agreement on a five-year, $75 million contract Thursday with the Chicago Cubs, but the deal apparently unraveled and he elected to return to Detroit.

The Angels have a surplus of outfielders following their agreement with Josh Hamilton, and there’s reason to believe GM Jerry Dipoto will make a deal to balance out his roster. The Angels are “very likely” to trade an outfielder such as Peter Bourjos or Mark Trumbo for a pitcher, Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports (on Twitter). Depending on the return, either player could be moved. Trumbo seems less available than Bourjos, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports (on Twitter).

Both Bourjos and Trumbo will remain under team control through 2016 and won't be arbitration eligible until after the 2013 season. Earlier today, Dave Cameron of FanGraphs explained that Bourjos closely resembles Cameron Maybin and suggested he’d be a worthwhile pickup for a team in need of a center fielder.
