    Braves To Sign B.J. Upton
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 28 at 4:49pm CST]
    4:49pm: It's a five-year, $75.25MM contract, Rosenthal reports (on Twitter).

Upton declined a qualifying offer from the Rays, which means the Rays are now eligible to obtain a top pick in the 2013 draft. The Braves will surrender their first round draft pick to sign Upton, though that selection won't go directly to Tampa Bay.

Denard Span to the Nationals for Alex Meyer (former Kentucky Wildcat). He's more or less comparable to Robert Stephenson for us.

BREAKING: @Nationals acquire OF Denard Span from @Twins for Minor League RHP Alex Meyer.

Reds Notes: Span, Latos, Bailey, Ludwick
By Mark Polishuk [November 29 at 5:45pm CST]
With B.J. Upton now a Brave and Denard Span now a National, the Reds' outfield/leadoff hitter options are thinning out, writes MLB.com's Mark Sheldon. The Reds tried to acquire Span from the Twins at last year's trade deadline, though Sheldon hadn't heard anything about the Reds continuing their pursuit for Span this winter. Sheldon believes Michael Bourn and Angel Pagan are too expensive for the Reds and Shane Victorino may be as well, though Cincinnati is one of at least seven teams who have shown interest in Victorino's services.

Tomorrow, November 30, is the non-tender deadline. Teams declining to tender contracts to arbitration eligible players allow them to become free agents. The non-tender date is earlier this year, apparently under the new CBA.

This could result in last minute trades (like tonight) of arbitration eligible players - trade them rather than let them go for nothing. And it opens up a new group of free agents for this off-season.

In this vein, Brian Wilson is scheduled to be nontendered, according to multiple baseball writers on Twitter

    American League Non-Tenders
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 30 at 4:50pm CST]
Here are today’s American League non-tenders. All decisions must be in by 11pm CDT tonight. Be sure to track all tender decisions using MLBTR's Non-Tender Tracker. Related resources include our list of non-tender candidates, our projected arbitration salaries and our arbitration eligibles series.

The Indians announced they non-tendered Jack Hannahan, Rafael Perez and Chris Seddon
The White Sox announced that they've non-tendered right-hander pitcher Anthony Carter and infielder Dan Johnson.
The Red Sox are expected to non-tender outfielder Ryan Sweeney, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports (on Twitter). Red Sox reliever Scott Atchison told Rob Bradford of WEEI.com that he's been informed he'll be non-tendered.
The Royals announced that they won't tender outfielder Derrick Robinson a contract for 2013 (Twitter link). Robinson has no MLB experience so he wasn't arbitration eligible.
The Tigers announced that they will non-tender Daniel Schlereth. The left-hander was limited to six appearances this past season, which he mostly spent on the disabled list with shoulder tendinitis. Schlereth was not yet arbitration eligible.

    Nationals Non-Tender John Lannan
By Mike Axisa [November 30 at 9:28pm CST]
The Nationals have non-tendered John Lannan, reports Bill Ladson of MLB.com (on Twitter). The left-hander was projected to earn $5MM during his third trip through arbitration this winter according to Matt Swartz.

Lannan, 28, made only six starts for Washington this year. He pitched to a 4.13 ERA with 4.7 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 in 32 2/3 innings while spending most of the season in Triple-A despite a hefty $5MM salary. Lannan posted a 4.30 ERA with 5.2 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 while in the minors.

Sources tell FoxSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal the Reds like Dexter Fowler and the Rockies like Homer Bailey. Now the question is whether their mutual interest crystallizes into trade discussions during the Winter Meetings.
