Reds Have Interest In BJ Upton

Aparently the Reds have kicked the tires on the BJ Upton. This was stubbled on in a post on MLBTradeRumors.com/ MLBTradeRumors App.

I have interest in BJ Upton as well. lol

Honestly though, Atlanta or Philly will probably get him. I'd buy season tix if they do acquire him.

But, honestly if the reds could somehow get BJ than I'd be quite happy with that. Not as good as his brother, but still a super talent regardless.

He would be a 30 HR guy here in our division but would be shocked to beat out the money of the NL East.

I wouldn't mind having BJ Upton since he's a pretty solid CF, but his skill set doesn't really mesh well with what the Reds need. In my opinion, the Reds have enough pop and should be looking for OBP. Upton isn't that guy. He'd still be an upgrade, just not really an ideal fit.

Some team is going to pay for BJ Upton's talent and be extremely disappointed when they get BJ Upton's production. I hope the Reds don't break the budget to sign him. I'll probably take a beating for saying this but if we were going to spend $10+ million on a single player this offseason, I'd rather have Swisher than Upton.

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to sign Upton. You play him in CF in '13 and with his power you can afford to address the lack of OBP in LF (DeJesus?). Then in '14 you move Upton to left and Hamilton plays center.

    I'd take:

    LF - DeJesus
    2B - Phillips
    1B - Votto
    CF - Upton
    RF - Bruce
    3B - Frazier
    SS - Cozart
    C - Hanigan/Mes

This would be a good lineup, and with the Pitching staff it would make the Reds a very good team (is DeJesus speculated to be on the market? If so I must have missed it). But I agree with the assessment that he isn't going to be worth the money he gets. At least not as far as what this team needs.

If Walt signs him I won't get up in arms. But I won't be upset if he doesn't.

The only reason I would want the Reds to sign BJ Upton is if is followed by trading for Justin Upton to have JUP in Left and BUP in Center...

Otherwise, you're overpaying a Stubbs type player.

I would love this but I am very biased towards Upton.
