    David Wright: 7/$140

My first reaction is that I expected more money.

He's about 30 and his OPS over the last 4 years is about .840.

He's a premium player bringing good defense, but he hasn't been tranding the right away for some time.

I think part of this is the fact that they needed to keep the face of the franchise around. Wright is their Joey Votto and probably overpaid slightly to keep the fan base happy. I don't blame them for throwing money towards them considering the amount of bad press that franchise has experienced the past couple of years.

Mets had to keep Wright, and with the Dodgers unlimited cash pile looming they had to pay him now. He's the face of a franchise that is suffering greatly at the box office and with the fans. This was a no brainer. I assume they'll be doing their best to get rid of Johan Santana's contract at the winter meetings.

Personally, with all the money about to come into the league from a revenue perspective, I would take Wright in a heartbeat for that deal. I think that ends up being more than fair and I think he is the missing piece for this team and a long playoff run.

Well, so much for those Wright-to-the-Reds discussions we kept having. I'll miss them.
