I'm a Lamarre fan. Excellent athlete with a pretty high ceiling, IMO.

Haven't we seen this movie before?
- Super athletic college CF
- Puts up mediocre minor league numbers
- Speed is his best tool
- Poor contact hitter, but can take a walk
- Middling power numbers, but people insist the potential is there
- Numbers buoyed by what is likely an unsustainable high BABIP
LaMarre makes a bit more contact, but walks less and hits for less power. Looks like a future 4th/5th OF to me.Code:Stubbs Year Age Level PA AVG OBP SLG BB K ISO BABIP SB 2006 21 R 252 .252 .368 .400 13% 25% .148 .333 19 2007 22 A 575 .270 .364 .421 12% 25% .151 .354 23 2008 23 A+/AA/AAA 548 .276 .371 .417 12% 22% .140 .358 33 2009 24 AAA 472 .268 .353 .360 11% 22% .092 .350 46 Total 1847 .269 .364 .401 12% 23% .132 .351 121 LaMarre Year Age Level PA AVG OBP SLG BB K ISO BABIP SB 2010 21 A/A+ 292 .276 .361 .397 8% 20% .122 .333 19 2011 22 A+/AA 522 .276 .348 .368 9% 19% .091 .336 55 2012 23 AA 558 .263 .356 .353 11% 21% .089 .339 30 Total 1372 .271 .354 .368 9% 20% .097 .337 104

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
I'd be thrilled if Lamarre turned into another Drew Stubbs.
People forget how good Stubbs was his first couple of years in Cincinnati. If Lamarre turns into 2009-2010 Stubbs, he is would be an upper echelon MLB starter. If he turns into 2011 Stubbs, he would be a slightly above average starter. Even if he turns into 2012 Stubbs, he'd still be a decent 4th/5th OF.
Having your #20 prospect turn into Drew Stubbs is something to rejoice over, not to something to bemoan.
When Stubbs was useful, he had a .100 point advantage over Lamarre in isoP. Lamarre could be very good, but it's all hinging on whether or not he can add quite a bit of power without ballooning his K rate IMO. With the skills he's got now, I can't see him being anything other than wholly underwhelming on the offensive side.

I'll be happy with LaMarre if he becomes a fourth OF/ spot starter in CF. I suspect he'll add some power in Louisville (should he end up there) because it's a much better offensive park than Pennsacola. Should he go .270/.350/.425, he'd be a mighty fine LFer to pair with Hamilton, though.
Imagine that OF defensively. Imagine the HAVOK(!) it would cause on the basepaths to have two 50+ SB guys at the top of the order.
Having said that, I don't know if LaMarre is even capable of providing that power. He was supposed to have above average pop coming out of Michigan, but looks like a weak stick in person and just as bad over the course of the year statistically.
I did this back in October.... but Pensacola boosted power at incredible levels.

I hope he makes the majors so when the Reds play San Diego, and Chase Headley flies out to him, I can write on my scorecard... Headley-Lamarre.
