He's the reason I'm so supportive of Chapman moving to the rotation. If the likes of Coco and Dave Weathers could be effective closers, it'd be a waste to leave a super talent there if you think he can stand up to the pounding of starting.

Castro was pretty terrible, but it was nice to have someone who could reliably catch and/or throw.

For non-Reds, I never understood how Jerry Dybzinski ever made a major league roster. He was the back up SS for those terrible Indian teams back in the '80's. Basically the 25th player on some of the worst teams in my lifetime. I would have cut him just so I wouldn't have to ever write his name on the lineup card.

God bless him, I know that he was an effective reliever for many years, but the late Joe Hoerner was beyond awful in '77.

Thug Life Hummel? Yo, you better watch out or you are gonna wind up with a cap in your hind parts.

I tell you, Willie Harris from last year was downright awful.

Re: Ode to the bad player

So I need help. Who was that pitcher who was lights out in Spring Training several years ago, but when the season rolled around, he couldn't retire a batter. For some reason Del Resario is in my mind, but I am not sure that is correct.

    Help?

    Wilson Valdez.

Career bWAR of -0.9 and a career OPS of .594 and a career OPS+ of 59. In 2012 for the Reds, Valdez had a WAR of -1.8 with an OPS of .463 and OPS+ of 24. Just pathetic.
