    Ode to the bad player

Fans everywhere often talk about great players however we rarely talk about the players that leave you scratching your head. I would like to know, who is the worst player you have ever seen? I'm not talking about a frustrating player that has loads of talent but isn't living up to it. I'm talking about the players that you wonder why they're up at the major league level to begin with. The kind of player where not only you laugh at how bad they are but you kind of feel sorry for him.

For me, it's Tyler Greene. Butters, as I nicknamed him, couldn't do anything right. It became almost laughable seeing him field and looked overmatched at the plate. Routine pop ups were an adventure. I have no idea what the Cardinals were thinking bringing him up.

Wasn't the worst, but I always wondered what baseball front offices saw in Todd Benzinger.

    Paul Householder.

Somehow he got 450 or so PA's in 1982. Threw up a .500ish OPS if I'm not mistaken.

    He was horrendous.

Come to think of it, Brad Komminsk couldn't hold a candle to Benzinger.

Re: Ode to the bad player

Eddy Rodriguez of the Padres (formerly a Reds farmhand)
Keith Kessinger seemed like he had no business playing in MLB (although his sip of coffee turned out fairly well)
Even more so than Kessinger was Brian Koelling, who was called up because JimBo liked to please fans by putting local products on the field. Speaking of which, why else do you think we saw Pete Rose, Jr., Stephen Larkin, Mike Bell, Tim Belk, et al?
I could probably think of a ton of LOOGYs (Dan Serafini comes to mind).
I'm tempted to include post-surgery guys like Seth Etherton, Jeff Austin, Phil Dumatrait, and others.
There are some washed-up players who deserve mention e.g. Juan Castro and Paul Wilson.
Chris Booker always looked to me like he had never been on a baseball field before.
