Why not sign some of these pitchers to minor league contracts and if they do really well, it's a good trade chip when other teams need pitchers due to injury?

Wasn't Corky in the movie "Boogie Nights"?

I try to think about players only between the lines, but in Delmon's case, I don't think I would want him after what he did in NYC last year (and I am not even Jewish).

Furthermore, if the Reds are going to add an outfielder now, I would prefer to add a good glove in CF. Delmon is resigned to the corners and he does not know how to take a walk. I honestly feel like Delmon is Chris Heisey with a bad attitude. My vote is to pass.

I agree completely. I don't mind jerk types if their attitude and problems stay off field andh don't impact their play. Young's seems to. That is a big NO forme.

Delmon Young seems on the fast track to Elijah Dukes-ville.

Could possibly benefit from following the leadership of a guy like Brandon Phillips... If that was the case, it would be a low-risk high-reward proposition.

What's the reward? That he is a decent corner outfield bat off the bench? Don't we already have that in Heisey and Paul?

I believe there is definitely risk that he misbehaves again.

I'd call this a high risk-low reward proposition. It's not like I'd turn in my Reds fandom if Walt signs Delmon, but I am definitely opposed to this move.

Some guys that I still like that could be useful during the year in case of injuries, and could be signed to minor league contracts are:

    1) Ronny Paulino-Catcher
    2) Humberto Quintana-Catcher

---it's always nice to have one stashed in AAA, for injuries or if Mesoraco slumps again.

    3) Rick Ankiel-OF

--bats lefty and plays all 3 OF spots

    4) Drew Sutton-3b/utility

--could play multiple positions and gives us a respectable bat at the 25th spot.

    5) Freddy Garcia-SP

--would be used for spot starts in extreme emergencies
just a thought for organizational depth

Reds signed Corky again. I'm pretty confident he's the veteran catcher stashed at Louisville.

I'm fine stashing some OF depth. Seems like we don't have much readily available in the minors if someone goes down. Same with utility.

Walt already said they have enough pitching depth, and I agree. If Chapman fails at starting, they have Leake. If one of those remaining 5 go down, I'd rather see Cingrani or Corcino against major league pitching and having Price coach them up.

Damn, I bet we could have gotten Michael Bourn on a 1-year deal, traded Gregorius for Bauer and then traded Stubbs for a reliever or something. But then we would have had to sacrifice our first-round draft pick this year. But getting Bauer would have made up for that tenfold!

    Re: Available remaining free agents

Bedard on a minor league deal with Ted Power trying to fix him?

What's up with Matt Capps, is he finished or something?

If Hamilton were already up, Johnny Damon would have been a good mentor. Not so much now.

Figgins minor league deal.........see if he can straighten himself out?

The obligatory Jair Jurrjens minor league deal - can Power fix him too?

I just look at guys and think if you can fix them, they become trade chips. Maybe it's not worth it. It does take reps away from your prospects.
